Kobe to fans: Shut up

Kobe to fans: Shut up, Kobe Bryant had a message to all those Lakers fans, who are critical of their 0-2 start: Relax, don’t panic and shut up. The internet and radio talk shows were popping Thursday with complaints about the Lakers’ defense, grumblings about the Princeton offense and moaning about Mike Brown’s coaching after their 116-106 loss to Portland the previous night.

Bryant said he is not thrilled with the team’s record but finds the complaining “entertaining.”

“Nobody wants to win here more than I do. NOBODY. Nobody,” he said after Thursday’s practice. “But I’m not panicking over it or jumping off a bridge because we’re 0-2 or whatever.

“It is a process but we have to approach the process with a sense of urgency. Because we have this talent on the roster it’s not just going to happen. We have to push for it to happen.”

Bryant said the Lakers went through similar growing pains when Phil Jackson first came aboard and installed the triangle offense. Fans didn’t understand that offense, either, but didn’t complain as loudly because of the number of rings Jackson had won.

Bryant said the Lakers’ poor start has not left a good impression with fans, who have been calling for Brown to scrap the Princeton offense elements.

“The essence is everybody sharing the spotlight. Everybody being able to read and react and working as one,” he said.

“The city here, and for me not to bite my tongue, but I would call it dumb…which I kind of just did. They have seen us win multiple championships here, playing an offense that was tough to learn, that were a sequence of options that weren’t set plays, that took five guys being on the same page and working as one.

“They know how that stuff works. So for them to be so stupid now… I don’t want to say idiotic, but its’ close.”

Bryant said fans should give Brown a chance to work out the offensive kinks, solidify the defense and meld four All-Stars into a cohesive unit.

“I think the critics are more likely to take (shots) at him than Phil, which is fair because Phil obviously won and Mike hasn’t won yet,” Bryant said. “You have to look at the offensive philosophies, they are the same philosophies, and for people not to understand that is kind of funny to me, to sit back and see that and hear that.

“I’ve won, so I can say (be quiet.) Mike, it would be tougher for him to say that, but I will say it for him: everybody shut up and at the end of the day you will be happy as you usually are.”
