Beckham Australia, The A-League says it is still hopeful of negotiating a deal to bring David Beckham to the A-League.
Football Federation Australia (FFA) confirmed on Friday it had received an approach from the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star, expressing an interest in playing in the A-League this season.
Beckham's representatives then contradicted the FFA, saying there were 'absolutely no plans [for Beckham] to play in Australia."
The former England captain then told US journalists early Saturday morning that any deal being struck was news to him.
But A-League CEO Damien de Bohun confirmed an approach had been made and said negotiations are still in their early stages.
"The reality is there's so much complexity to the nature of international transfers," de Bohun told Grandstand.
"From our perspective, it's definitely something that we've had some discussions about and it's very much in the early stages.
"I certainly wouldn't say it's dead in the water by any stretch of the imagination."
He says it is possible that Beckham is keeping mum over the negotiations while his MLS side LA Galaxy prepares for its play-off date with the Seattle Sounders.
"David's about to play in a major final ... the LA Galaxy are playing in the MLS finals so all of his focus and their focus will obviously need to be on that," de Bohun said.

"I think the one thing weve learned this season is never say never and we've seen a couple of big signings - particularly in Del Piero and Heskey - a lot of people thought were just a pipedream that came true.
"Players like David and Alessandro Del Piero have a range of people who are out there who are looking at what they might be able to do next.
"From our perspective, the fact we're even having those discussions and that they are taken seriously is fantastic. From the FFA's perspective we're obviously very very happy to work closely with the clubs and support this type of conversation.
"If you added David Beckam to Del Piero, to Heskey, Ono, Emerton and others, that would make a massive difference to the league and build on the incredible start to the season."When asked by US journalists whether he had received an offer, at least from Western Sydney Wanderers, Beckham appeared to pour cold water on the idea early on Saturday morning.
"Yeah, [LA Galaxy coach Bruce Arena] told me that this morning. It was the first I heard about it," he said.
"It is definitely not true."
It followed his representatives denying talk about a deal, saying Beckham was "focused" on his commitments with the Galaxy.
"There is always interest from clubs across the world in signing David as a player," a spokesperson for Beckham said.
"However, there are absolutely no plans to play in Australia.
"David is completely focused on the MLS play-offs and winning another championship with the Galaxy."
But new FFA chief executive David Gallop said there was no need for Australian clubs to be disheartened by the denials, citing a similar situation during negotiations to bring Del Piero to Sydney FC.
Gallop said there had been contact with Beckham but the FFA would have preferred negotiations to have been kept quiet.
