Hotel of Doom

Hotel of Doom, The ‘Hotel of Doom’ is an iconic, desolate ghost building nestled in the hear of North Korea.  Actually called the Ryugyong Hotel, the building is affectionately known as the ‘Hotel of Doom’ because it has never been occupied.

The 105 story pyramid, which dominates the skyline, was never actually completed.  After the collapse of the the Soviet Union, the project lost its funding.  There has been no construction since 1992.

These photos from Wikipedia and SkyscraperLife show the hotel as an ominous, daunting presence.

This week, the hotel is back in the news.  Specifically, Egypt’s Orascom Group has resumed construction.  To begin, they have started refurbishing the top three floors.  No official next steps have been released, although architects assume it would cost up to $2 billion to make the building habitable.

For some lovely context, the hotel was dubbed by Esquire Magazine as ‘The Worst Building in the History of Mankind’, further noting, “Even by Communist standards, the 3,000-room hotel is hideously ugly.”

U.S. Postal Service to default

U.S. Postal Service to default, Without last-minute help from Congress, the U.S. Postal Service is likely to default on a big bill due Wednesday to the federal government -- $5.5 billion to prepay health care benefits for retirees.

While default would be a first for the Postal Service and a sign of how deep its problems are, it's largely symbolic. Postal officials have pledged that employees and subcontractors will continue to be paid and mail will be delivered as normal."The U.S. Postal Service will not make mandated prefunding retiree health benefit payments to the Treasury," the service said in a statement Monday. "This action will have no material effect on the operations of the Postal Service."

Still, postal officials have said they're bracing for default on the payment. They also don't have the money to make a $5.6 billion payment due Sept. 30.

Congress alone has the power to help the service. The Senate passed a bill to help the service back in April, but the full House has yet to consider the issue.

The service is in a financial bind, having reported several quarters worth of multi-billion-dollar losses due to the recession, declining mail volume and the congressional mandate to prefund retirement health care benefits for future retirees.

The real loss could come as more postal customers turn away from U.S. Mail and question its long-term stability, said Art Sackler, a co-coordinator for the Coalition for a 21st Century Postal Service, a group of businesses that depend on mail service.

"With Congress delaying action on a postal bill, mailers will be increasingly wary about the stability of the Postal Service and will likely divert more mail out of the system," Sackler said in a statement.
Unions say the Postal Service's problems are entirely caused by the Congressional mandate on health care benefits. They want Congress to repeal the mandate and stop cuts that the service has in the works.
"This bogus 'default' has proved to be useful rhetoric to those who want to dismantle the Postal Service, especially those who for ideological or competitive reasons want it privatized," said Fredric Rolando, president of the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Unions also like to point out that no other private or public entity has to set aside money for future retiree health benefits.
However, neither the bill that passed the Senate nor the bill expected to be taken up by the House takes the unions' advice to do away with the prepayments on benefits entirely. Such a move would add billions to already hefty federal budget deficits.
Last year, Congress gave the Postal Service a reprieve by delaying the mandated prepayment, giving lawmakers time to pass reform. But Congress took too long.
In April, the Senate passed a bill that eased the pricey retirement benefit payments by stretching the payments out over time. The bill also gave the Postal Service access to much needed cash: an $11 billion overpayment in the Federal Employees Retirement System.
The measure would also allow the service to cut Saturday mail service in two years after several studies are conducted.
Summer of discontent
The House has yet to consider a bill that would open the door for the service to pursue deep cuts to post offices and postal plants, and end Saturday service, among other things.
House lawmakers blamed the default on the Postal Service for failing "to do all it can under current law to cut costs," said Rep. Darrell Issa, a California Republican who authored the House bill.
In the meantime, the service is consolidating 46 plants over the next month, which will impact 5,000 workers. If the consolidation goes like others, workers will be offered other jobs, but some of those jobs will require moves to other cities or states.
The Postal Service has also offered retirement incentive packages, and about 4,000 of 21,000 eligible local postmasters and 3,000 of 45,000 eligible mail handlers want to take the deal, according to the agency.
The Postal Service is considered independent and doesn't usually use taxpayer dollars. Currently, it's operating on a $12.7 billion loan from Treasury

America for Jesus 2012

America for Jesus 2012, Christian conservatives who blame "moral depravity" for everything from the recession to terrorism are converging on Philadelphia for a rally they hope will spark a religious revival as Election Day nears.

Called "America for Jesus 2012," the prayer assembly on Independence Mall is attracting support across a spectrum of Protestant clergy and activists. Among the scheduled speakers are religious broadcaster Pat Robertson and Family Research Council president Tony Perkins, along with preachers such as Cindy Jacobs of Generals International ministry who say they're prophets with a direct line to God. Many backers had also endorsed "The Response," the prayer rally hosted last year by Texas Gov. Rick Perry just before he entered the GOP presidential primary.

John Blanchard, national coordinator for "America for Jesus 2012," said the two-day event starting Friday night is nonpartisan. It's modeled after the 1980 "Washington for Jesus" rally, considered a pivotal show of organizational strength by the then-fledgling Christian right. Bishop Anne Gimenez, whose late husband John helped lead the 1980 assembly, is a lead organizer of the Philadelphia gathering.

"We are praying that God would touch America," said Blanchard, executive pastor of Rock Church International in Virginia, which the Gimenez family founded. "We're not Democrats and Republicans. We're Christians."

Still, many of those offering prayers at the event have been outspoken critics of President Barack Obama. Steve Strang, the influential Pentecostal publisher of Charisma magazine, wrote in a blog post inviting readers to join him in Philadelphia that America is under threat from a "radical homosexual agenda" and Obama "seems to be moving toward some form of European socialism."

Jacobs blamed a mysterious Arkansas bird-kill last year on Obama's repeal of the policy known as "don't ask, don't tell," enabling gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military.

David Barton, a self-taught historian who emphasizes the Christian roots of the U.S., is another rally supporter. Barton wrote in a Feb. 29 article that Obama has shown "hostility toward Biblical people of faith" while giving "preferential treatment" to Muslims. (Obama has said he was raised in a nonreligious home and later became Christian.) The publisher Thomas Nelson last month withdrew Barton's book, "The Jefferson Lies," citing historical errors. The book challenged the belief that Jefferson was largely secular and promoted the separation of church and state.

Anne Gimenez said in a phone interview that although the event is Christian, the assembly will not advocate that the U.S. government be limited to Christians.

"I have no boundaries or limitations on that. I would just like to see someone who is God-fearing" in public office, she said.Gimenez said Philadelphia was chosen because of its importance in U.S. history. The rally will be held outside the building where the Declaration of Independence was signed. Pennsylvania is also where evangelist George Whitefield preached during the first Great Awakening, the 18th-century religious revival that spread through the American colonies. Blanchard said his group successfully petitioned Pennsylvania lawmakers to declare Saturday "William Penn Day" in honor of Pennsylvania's founder, who championed religious freedom.

"America is in a state of emergency evidenced by the symptoms of widespread moral depravity and economic meltdown," organizers wrote on the rally's website. "Education, government, and man's wisdom cannot solve this problem."

Two weeks ago, the ministry coalition behind the assembly distributed food and offered medical care throughout Philadelphia as part of the run-up to the gathering. Attendees will be asked to start 40 days of prayer and fasting, through the Nov. 6, election, to help turn the nation toward God. Preachers representing Messianic Judaism, which teaches that Christ is the Messiah, a belief at odds with traditional Judaism, will blow the shofar, a ram's horn used in Jewish ritual.

The major speakers are scheduled for Saturday. Joel Osteen, the Texas megachurch pastor, has sent a video prayer message to the event. An executive with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association is also among those offering prayers. A message of support from 93-year-old evangelist Billy Graham will be read.

Josh Cribbs Hit

Josh Cribbs Hit, In Baltimore's 23-16 win over Cleveland on Thursday, Josh Cribbs took a frightening hit that left him unconscious.

It happened with 5:07 left in the first quarter when he was creamed by Baltimore's Dannell Ellerbe on a punt return.

Cribbs' helmet flew off from the force of the contact and his head slammed onto the ground.

He remained motionless on the turf, his arms sprawled and his eyes closed for a few tense moments.

Players from both teams got down on their knees and began praying, including Ellerbe.

"You ain't really trying to go out there and try to hurt somebody," he said. "It's a part of the game, but you never do it intentionally. I thought he had just fumbled the ball; I didn't know he went to sleep."

After several minutes, Cribbs regained consciousness and was helped to the sidelines.

It was a scary moment for a player who suffered at least one other concussion two years ago against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"He is the soul of our special teams," kicker Phil Dawson said. 'When he went down that was a big hole to fill. You can't replace Josh. He's so valuable to what we do."

Kellen Winslow Released

Kellen Winslow Released, Kellen Winslow was acquired by the Seattle Seahawks in the hopes that along with Zach Miller the duo could become a formidable set of tight ends who could add another element to the Seahawks offense.

Those plans drastically changed on Saturday when Winslow was released by the team, keeping true to the Seahawks' past form of tinkering with their roster even after all training camp cuts are made.

A team spokesman confirmed Winslow's release shortly after it was first reported by ESPN.com. Winslow was scheduled to make $3.3 million in base salary in 2012, following his trade from Tampa Bay to Seattle in May.
Seattle moved quickly to fill Winslow's spot by agreeing to terms with former Cleveland tight end Evan Moore, who was released by the Browns on Friday. Moore caught 34 passes for 324 yards and four touchdowns a season ago for Cleveland. Cutting Winslow briefly left Seattle with just Miller and Anthony McCoy on the active roster, but there is likely to be more shuffling before the Seahawks start preparations for the regular season opener at Arizona on Sept. 9.

The Seahawks gave up a conditional draft pick to the Buccaneers to get Winslow, who said it became clear he didn't fit into the plans of new Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano. Even with knee problems in the past, he was expected to be a significant contributor to the Seahawks offense.

"I knew when Raheem (Morris) left and coach Schiano came in I was kind of skeptical how the fit was going to be, how the team was going to be run," Winslow said during training camp. "So it does motivate me. But I just want to be an elite tight end. My thing is catching the ball. I want to be the top guy at that."

Winslow didn't have much impact during preseason games, finishing with just three catches for 34 yards and a touchdown. His practice time was also closely monitored as Seattle tried to get Winslow to the regular season without putting additional stress on his knee.

The Seahawks believed that schematically they could create mismatches using Winslow and Miller lined up against slower linebackers or smaller safeties. Miller signed with the Seahawks before the 2011 season, but was stuck in mostly a blocking situation during his first season and never was much of a receiving threat.
"I've always had a blocking tight end and Zach is both," Winslow said during camp.

Obama Romney Polls

President Obama is threatening Mitt Romney’s best route to victory in the electoral college, grabbing a significant lead over his Republican challenger in Ohio and a slender edge in Florida, according to two new polls by The Washington Post.
Democratic candidates have even larger leads in the Senate races in those two states, according to the polls. Together, the results suggest that with six weeks left until the election, Democrats hold significant advantages in some important battlegrounds.

In the presidential race, Obama is ahead of Romney in Ohio by 52 percent to 44 percent among likely voters. In Florida, the president leads 51 percent to 47 percent, a numerical edge but not a statistically significant one. Among all registered Florida voters, Obama is ahead by nine percentage points.

Romney began a two-day bus tour of Ohio on Tuesday afternoon in an effort to build enthusiasm for his candidacy and narrow the gap with Obama. The trip will take him from Dayton to Columbus to Toledo before he departs for Virginia, another key battleground where he is behind in public polls.

Rich Beeson, Romney’s political director, brushed aside the public polls of Ohio, telling reporters traveling with the candidate Tuesday that the campaign is making strategic decisions based on its internal surveys and research and remains confident about the outcome.

At his rally north of Dayton, Romney stressed that there are big philosophical differences between him and Obama, saying that the president’s approach is “foreign to anything this country has ever known.” Campaign advisers said they will seek to deliver a clear and consistent message outlining Romney’s policy priorities as a way to draw contrasts with the incumbent.

Romney has only a few days to drive that message before both campaigns are consumed by the presidential debates. The three presidential and one vice-presidential debate will offer Romney and his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan (Wis.), their best chance to change the dynamics of the race and put Obama on the defensive. The first presidential debate will be held Oct. 3 in Denver.

With Romney lagging, Republicans face additional challenges down-ballot in the same battleground states. In the new Post surveys, Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio holds a substantial lead over Republican Josh Mandel, giving Democrats some breathing room in a race in which outside groups have put nearly $20 million toward defeating the incumbent. Brown leads Mandel 53 percent to 41 percent among likely voters.

In Florida’s Senate race, incumbent Bill Nelson (D) holds a 14-point advantage over Rep. Connie Mack (R), leading 54 percent to 40 percent among likely voters.

The new numbers come one week after a Post poll in Virginia showed Obama with a clear lead there. More than half of all the money spent in the campaign has focused on these three states, and many analysts say Romney has to win two of the three to capture the White House.

The past few weeks have been difficult for the Romney campaign, and the nominee’s advisers vowed to hit the reset button this week. But with the first debate scheduled for next week, Romney is under new pressure to refocus his campaign.

Best time of day to do everything

Best time of day to do everything,  Time management is unbelievably important essential for any man trying to be his best. That doesn't mean you have to fill your day with as many tasks as you can or build out your schedule with nothing but hustle.
It means that in order to be the guy, the husband, the friend, the father, the boyfriend, the employee, the maker, the athlete, the citizen, the artst, the buisness owner, the scholar, the volunteer, the brother (you get where I'm going...), you've got to create the balance that allows you to fit in all the tasks and roles you've incorportated into your life.

And a great way to create that balance? Be mindfulof not only what you do, but when you're doing it. This isn't about a corporate understanding of maximizing efficiency, though that's part of it. Rather, the goal is to build the tasks into your schedule at the time it makes the most sense to accomplish them. That includes everything from booking flight times, to exercise, cleaning, and napping and walking the dog. As they say, "Don't work harder. Work smarter." Or something...

Mom caught in 'cruel' scam (VIDEO)

Mom caught in 'cruel' scam,This is the shocking moment a woman was caught on CCTV using her eight-year-old daughter to help shoplift electrical goods.

The woman was spotted on security cameras removing security tags from a DVD player at a branch of Tesco's.
She is then seen encouraging her young accomplice to pick the £50 machine off the shelf and walk out of the store.

The girl - aged around eight - is seen leaving the shop in Plymouth, Devon, with the goods under her arm.
Police say they believe the girl is the daughter of the woman who they have branded 'despicable'.

PC Paul Coppola said: 'It's despicable to use a child in this way. It is very unusual. If caught, the woman would be prosecuted.
'But if the child is as young as she appears, she is under the age of criminal responsibility. In that case she would be referred to social services.'
The woman, who was wearing grey bottoms and a cardigan, was spotted at the store at 1.35pm on June 3.
Her accomplice, of large build and with mousy hair, also walked out the store with a protective case for the DVD player worth £15.

Teen bitten by deadly snake (VIDEO)

Teen bitten by deadly snake (VIDEO), A 17-year-old Australian boy is in serious condition after being bitten by what most reptile experts believe is the world's most venomous snake.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the boy was admitted to a hospital in the town of Kurri Kurri with a snakebite on his left hand.
He was later transferred to Calvary Mater Hospital in Newcastle.
The snake, which was brought still alive to the hospital by the boy's friend, was identified as an inland taipan. The snake is native to western New South Wales—about 600 miles from where the boy was bitten.
A spokesman for the Taronga Zoo in Sydney told the paper that a drop of the snake's venom "can kill 100 adult men and 250,000 mice."

Julie Mendezona, head zookeeper at Australian Reptile Park, told the paper that reports of inland taipan bites are extremely rare, and that there have been about 100 in Australia's history. A bite will effectively "start shutting down the function of messages going to your brain, to your vital organs, your lungs and your heart and even your muscles," she said. "So, paralysis is usually what happens with the patient. Because it can act so fast, being a neurotoxin, that's what makes it such a deadly animal. It can kill someone within maybe 45 minutes. There have been reports of people experiencing effects of venom within half an hour as well.
"It also contains an anticoagulant," she added, "which means it will interfere with the blood clotting, so therefore you can experience bleeding out as well."
Barry Martin, a veteran snake catcher who was called in to identify the inland taipan, told the Daily Telegraph it's known as a "fierce snake."
"They [used to be] called the 'two-step snake' as in it bites you, you take two steps and you're dead," he said.

Baby found by troops gets family

Baby found by troops gets family, A newborn girl left abandoned on the side of the road in southern Afghanistan has been adopted by a childless Afghan couple.

"We have named her Arya [which means happiness], and we will take care of her forever," the adoptive father, Mohammad Zahir, a 29-year-old shopkeeper from Ghazni, Afghanistan, said Thursday. "She has completely changed our lives. We are so happy. The whole family has been supportive of our decision."

Zahir has been married for four years, but he and his wife have been unsuccessful in their attempts to have children.

After a visit to a Ghazni hospital, however, he and his wife have their family.
"A man, Mohammad Zahir, contacted us and asked if his family could take care of the baby," Baz Mohammad Himat, director of health in Ghazni, said. "They promised to take care of her for the rest of their lives.

"This family was on a waiting list with this hospital for any unwanted baby."
Polish soldiers who discovered the baby on the Afghan roadside initially named her Pola, after Poland. They found her wrapped in a towel Sept. 19 while they were checking a route near their Waghez military base for safety, Defense Ministry spokesman Janusz Walczak told The Associated Press.

The soldiers were initially suspicious when they discovered the baby because there is a risk of hidden roadside bombs across Afghanistan.
After the troops found the baby, she was brought to a medical center at their base. The soldiers then bought the girl baby formula, a bottle and a bib.

Offer draws flood of suitors

The newly married lesbian daughter of a Hong Kong tycoon who offered a $65 million "marriage bounty" to any man able to win her love, on Thursday said she'd been flooded by marriage proposals but harbored no animosity towards her father.

Since Hong Kong property billionaire Cecil Chao, known in the tabloid media for his prolific womanizing, dangled a $65 million reward for any man able to lead his daughter, Gigi Chao, down the aisle, she says she's been bombarded by marriage proposals from strangers, date requests, and even an offer from a Hollywood film producer to buy her story.

"War veterans from the U.S., someone from Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, from Istanbul, South America, Portugal, really just from all over the world," said Chao, sifting through emails on a white Apple laptop in her father's high-rise office tower.

One suitor from the United States wrote: "I'm interested in your offer to wed your daughter, who also happens to be gay. I am a male person, who also happens to be gay."

Another put up his brother, a body double to George Clooney in the 2008 sports flick "Leatherheads" as a potential mate: "He could be the picture perfect date that your father craves."
"I've tried my best to respond to well-meaning ones ... but most of them I just try not to open," added the frizzy-haired Chao, who was wearing a silver ring after what she called a "church blessing" with her girlfriend in a Paris church.

Gigi said her billionaire father, who drives a Rolls Royce and flies a helicopter but had a poor early childhood in Shanghai, had been upset when his daughter's longtime lover revealed the couple had wed in Paris in April, leading to his impromptu HK$500 million "marriage bounty" offer to any man able to set her straight.
"I wasn't angry at all. I was really quite touched, very touched and very ... how should I say? moved, by Daddy's announcement," said the 33-year-old.

"I mean, it's really his way of saying 'baby girl, I love you. You deserve more,' basically," added Chau who works as an executive director in the family firm Cheuk Nang Holdings.
Her 76-year-old father, rarely seen without sunglasses and brand-name clothes, has never married but has boasted of bedding over 10,000 women including models and starlets.

Hong Kong, a freewheeling city that reverted from British to Chinese rule in 1997, retains a traditional Chinese social fabric but is considered relatively tolerant of alternative lifestyles compared with the rest of Asia. It decriminalized homosexuality in 1991.

It has gay social venues, film festivals and gay pride parades, making it a bastion of liberalism compared with China, where homosexuality was defined as a mental disorder until 2001.

"I'm not able to generalize about the experiences of all people in the gay community, but I think we in Hong Kong at the moment, are in the middle, we're not punishable by death for being gay, but it's not celebrated and obviously never encouraged," said Chao. "I think change is overdue."

Some hope the comedy value of the whole high-profile father daughter drama could help start a constructive dialogue about gay attitudes in the region.

"Starting a conversation with humor always makes people less aggressive," said James Gannaban, the organizer of an annual Mr. Gay Hong Kong pageant, in a local gay bar. "If people are less militant about issues, then there is greater opportunity for conversation, if we start off with a smile."

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, he man allegedly behind the anti-Islam YouTube video that sparked deadly riots in North Africa, the Middle East, and other parts of the world now sits in a Los Angeles jail on charges that have little to do with the crude, 14-minute trailer titled “Innocence of Muslims.”Instead, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula – the name authorities have settled on for a man known variously as
“Sam Bacile,” “Mark Basseley,” and “Mark Basseley Youseff” (which is what he now calls himself), plus a dozen other names – is being held for violating the terms of probation related to a 2010 bank fraud conviction.

Following his conviction, for which he served one year in federal prison, Mr. Nakoula had been ordered not to use an alias or access the Internet without the permission of his probation officer. At a preliminary bail hearing late Thursday, his attorney argued that Nakoula is not a flight risk and that if jailed he likely would be subject to physical attack because of the inflammatory nature of the video, which portrays the Prophet Muhammad as a fraud and a madman.

"It is a danger for him to remain in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles because there are a large number of Muslims in there," Steven Seiden said. "We are extremely concerned about his safety."

But Assistant US Attorney Robert Dugdale argued that Nakoula had engaged in a "pattern of deception" and is "a person who cannot be trusted."

"He poses a flight risk and poses a danger to others,” Mr. Dugdale said. "He has every incentive to disappear.”

That’s a reasonable assumption, according to some legal authorities.

Lawrence Rosenthal, a constitutional and criminal law professor at Chapman University School of Law in Orange, Calif., told the Associated Press that it is "highly unusual" for a judge to order immediate detention on a probation violation for a nonviolent crime, but if there are questions about Nakoula's identity it is more likely.

"When the prosecution doesn't really know who they're dealing with, it's much easier to talk about flight," Mr. Rosenthal said in the AP report. "I've prosecuted individuals who'd never given a real address. You don't know who you're dealing with, and you're just going to have very limited confidence about their ability to show up in court.""He engaged in a likely pattern of deception both to his probation officers and the court," US Magistrate Suzanne Segal said in issuing her ruling that Nakoula be held pending a decision on the eight charges of violating probation. "The court has a lack of trust in this defendant at this time.”The amateurish short video – there’s no indication that a full film ever was produced – stirred deadly riots that began in Egypt, then spread to other countries, including Libya. There, US Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Embassy personnel were killed at the consulate in Benghazi.

Beyond the immediate violence that “Innocence of Muslims” set off on the anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 9/11, the episode has raised questions about who launched the attack in Benghazi and the Obama administration’s response, which in turn has stirred US politics as the presidential election approaches. A subtext is freedom of expression – enshrined in the US Constitution but not recognized in countries where “Innocence of Muslims” is considered blasphemy.

Shortly after the attack that killed Ambassador Stevens, UN Ambassador Susan Rice said the riot in Benghazi “seems to have been hijacked … by some individual clusters of extremists who came with heavier weapons.”

Since then, White House officials have acknowledged that it was a sophisticated “terrorist attack.” Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, some Republican lawmakers, and conservative media have faulted President Obama for what they say is a weak and halting response to the attack and the broader regional unrest it reflects.

The extent to which Al Qaeda was involved remains unclear. Whether or not it was Al Qaeda per se, the organization has cooperated with a number of known terrorist groups worldwide including “The Libyan Islamic Fighting Group,” according to GlobalSecurity.org.

Back in the United States, where Nakoula Basseley Nakoula remains in custody, actors who appeared in “Innocence of Muslims” say they were duped into appearing in a film they were told was titled “Desert Warriors,” into which anti-Islam dialogue later was dubbed. One actress has sued YouTube and parent company Google in an attempt to have the video removed.

Grey’s Anatomy premiere

Grey’s Anatomy premiere, After losing Lexie (and Teddy) last year, Grey's Anatomy opened its ninth season with a look to its future as Seattle Grace welcomed a new batch of interns as the deadly plane crash claimed its second victim during Thursday's season premiere.

Opening with a familiar scene -- a new intern walking Seattle Grace's halls on her way to meet a feared doctor to the same Rilo Kiley song from its premiere -- the residents-turned-attendings experienced some major role reversals as everyone is dealing with the after-effects of the crash in a different way."Going, Going, Gone" was (in a way) a tribute to Mark Sloan (the departing Eric Dane), who became the second fatality from the crash.

The episode, which interweaved flashbacks -- complete with brand-new footage -- to Derek's wedding to Addison as well as Callie and Arizona's nuptials, flashed forward to 30 days after the crash that claimed the life of Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) and found most everyone back in Seattle but with a new set of hurdles to overcome: Arizona had to have her leg amputated, Cristina has moved on to Minnesota, April left the medical industry and Derek's medical future remains up in the air.

Meet the New Interns: Gaius Charles' Shane, Camilla Luddington's Jo Wilson and Tina Majorino's Heather are among the new batch of interns who must contend with a "Nazi" of their own -- Meredith. While some are ahead of the curve (Jo), others have found new friends (Heather) to spend time with. Early on, Jo is bearing the brunt of Meredith's wrath, but at the same time excelling to the point where she earns her first solo surgery (which doesn't exactly go her way).

Meredith (Ellen Pompeo): Dealing with the aftermath of the crash, Meredith has gone one beyond her former dark and twisty persona into "Medusa," an attending who instills fear in her interns. She's yet to process Lexie's death and high-tails it from Mark's bedside as a way to avoid addressing the epic losses in her life. At the airport, she runs into Alex and lets him have it for leaving without saying goodbye. "Nothing is the same, everything is different, everyone is leaving and everyone is dying," she tells him. After boarding the plane for Minnesota, she's unable to fly and instead hits the bar where she has a Facetime conversation with Cristina.
Derek (Patrick Dempsey):

His surgically repaired hand (thanks to Callie) doesn't quite make it through his first surgery back it goes numb in the middle of the procedure, prompting a rare emotional outburst.Cristina (Sandra Oh): She made good on her vow to leave Seattle and has set up shop at Henry Mayo in Minnesota, the land of snow and rambling doctors who are just not a match with her style -- and skills. While she's tried to fly back to Seattle multiple times, her PTSD has prevented her, too, from making the flight home. "We're working on it," Meredith tells Owen of her attempts to get on the plane.

After voicing her disdain for the Mayo regime, she's told to take mandatory R&R for an attitude adjustment (although there's clearly nothing wrong with her performance). Her Facetime conversations with Meredith, meanwhile, are a fun way to keep the BFFs in constant communication and -- and still keep the heart and soul of the series in tact.

Owen (Kevin McKidd): Owen, who as chief was responsible for sending the team out to Boise, is processing things in a stoic way, barely expressing any emotion at all despite being in email contact with Cristina (at the very least). His biggest faceoff comes with intern Jo, who asks why Meredith is so mean. He defends Meredith, saying she's not mean, but strong and is going hard on Jo to bring out the best in her. "If you can't handle that, leave now. If not, don't stand around in hallways and cry. Cry somewhere else, where I can't see you," he tells her. Amen.Mark (Eric Dane): After 30 days in a coma, Mark was taken off life support per his medical directive. In a touching sendoff via a flashback to Callie and Arizona's wedding, Mark reveals that if he were to have a partner, it'd be Lexie (awww). After Richard takes Mark off life support, Callie and Derek stay with him until his very last breath. "We thought if we could just get him back here alive…" an emotional Meredith says as she looks on. Ultimately, she can't stay to watch and decides to head to the airport to see Cristina. Mark's death will be further explored in next week's second episode of the season, which will feature a flashback to the crash site in the woods, their attempts to save him and their ultimate rescue.

Arizona (Jessica Capshaw): Last seen coughing up blood and with exposed bone at the site of the plane crash, Arizona survives the crash but her fate isn't all good news as her leg couldn't be spared. Worse: Arizona's wife, Callie -- an orthopedic surgeon -- was the one who had to amputate her left leg. The pediatrics surgeon, who made her Grey's debut in a pair of light-up wheelie sneakers, has lost her formerly preppy persona as she sinks into a deep depression to cope with her loss, leaving Callie to care for Sofia -- and herself. Her depression, meanwhile, is creating a rift in their marriage as Callie attempts to use tough love to get her wife back. "Get up! Get the hell out of bed and snap out of this because Sofia lost a parent and I lost my best friend," she tells Arizona, only to have her bite back: "Snap out of this?! How the hell am I supposed to snap out of this when you cut off my leg?" It sets up a grueling story line for the duo, as Callie processes Mark's loss and a new, angry Arizona.

Callie (Sara Ramirez): She and Derek have bonded in the 30 days since the crash as they've cared for Mark -- and as she's helped repair Derek's hand. While she puts on a brave face -- yelling at staffers who feel sorry for her and stare -- she's crying alone in a closet as she attempts to process everything that's happening to her family.April (Sarah Drew): In a bid to help restore some of the heart that has been taken from the hospital, Owen flies not to Minnesota to see Cristina but instead to visit April, where he offers the farmhand her old job back. "I should have helped you be strong instead of kicking you when you were down," he tells her. "You don't belong here, on a farm. You belong in Seattle, saving lives." How her return will impact Jackson, meanwhile, is anyone's guess.

Jackson (Jesse Williams): Speaking of Jackson, he continues to seek Mark's guidance, even from his comatose state. "I really think I know what I'm doing. Plastics Posse is going to live on, I can take it from here," an emotional Jackson tells Mark just before the clock strikes 5 p.m.

Bailey (Chandra Wilson): Her "Nazi" nickname has been retired, in favor of something more fitting to her romps with Ben (Jason George): BCB -- "Booty Call Bailey." The mortified look on her face when she finds out? Priceless. It's a personality switch to the nth degree that offsets the gloom and doom that's taken over Seattle Grace.

Alex (Justin Chambers): He's coping with survivor's guilt by bedding multiple interns, including Heather. Bragging about his exchange program, he learns that the new pediatrics attending plans to ship it off to UCLA. Ultimately, Alex opts against going to Hopkins to stay at Seattle Grace. "I'm not going to stay in Seattle just because you don't want to be alone," he tells Meredith at the airport. More likely, he'll fight for the peds program, setting the stage for a battle to come with Arizona's replacement.

Sandusky victim No. 1

Sandusky victim No. 1, A key witness in the child sex abuse trial of former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, known in court papers as Victim No. 1, has a book deal and will soon reveal his identity, a publisher announced Thursday.
The case rocked one of the country's most storied college sports programs and led to Sandusky's conviction in June on 45 counts of child sexual abuse of several victims. Sandusky is scheduled to be sentenced next month and is likely to receive a sentence that will keep him in prison for life.

Ballantine Bantam Dell said "Silent No More: Victim No. 1's Fight for Justice Against Jerry Sandusky," will come out Oct. 23.The memoir will be co-written by the victim's mother and psychologist and "will share how he survived years of shame and secrecy, harassment and accusation, before reporting Sandusky's actions to the authorities, and will offer a hopeful and inspiring message for victims of abuse," Ballantine said.

Now 18, Victim 1 will reveal his identity on the day of the book's release in an interview with ABC.

Financial terms of the book deal were not disclosed.

Victim 1 first alerted authorities in 2008 and helped launch the investigation leading to Sandusky's conviction.

Victim 1 testified for the prosecution that Sandusky approached him through a summer camp for youth sponsored by a charity for at-risk youth that the former coach had founded.

Sandusky allegedly fondled Victim 1 and performed oral sex on him multiple times. Prosecutors said some of the assaults took place on the Penn State campus.

After Victim 1 began trying to avoid Sandusky, he asked his mother about websites for child molesters, "to see if Jerry was on there," he testified.

His mother set up a meeting with school guidance counselors, a process that led to the opening of a police investigation and produced criminal charges against Sandusky in November.

Messages left Thursday seeking comment from Victim 1's civil lawyers, Slade McLaughlin and Michael Boni, were not immediately returned.

NFL Week 4 picks

NFL Week 4 picks, Week three of the 2012 NFL season is in the books and what a weird, weird week it was. And what about my New York Giants taking it to the Carolina Panthers last Thursday night? Anybody catch that game? We looked good. Real good.

Not to brag or boast or anything but I managed to go 8-8 last week picking games. Not bad considering last week was totally crazy. How well did you do? If you say you picked double-digit games right you're totally lying.
Anyway, let's move on to week number four, yes? There's some good looking games and I can't wait to pick them. So let's begin the debate. Here are my picks for week four:
Cleveland Browns @ Baltimore Ravens -
Since 2001 the Ravens lead this series 15-7 and the last time the Browns beat the Ravens was in 2007. The Browns actually swept the Ravens that year. Really? Anyway, with all that said, I have the Ravens winning this one 24-13.
Browns @ Ravens
Carolina Panthers @ Atlanta Falcons - The Falcons are red hot right now and look like one of the teams to beat in the NFC. Going back to 2001 they lead this series 15-7 and last year they swept the Panthers. Matty Ice is almost unbeatable at home so give me the Falcons 31-20.
Panthers @ Falcons
New England Patriots @ Buffalo Bills - What is up with the Pats, 1-2? Man, they must still be in shock over last year's Super Bowl loss to my Giants. Anyway, dating back to 2001, the Patriots lead this series 20-2 and after Sunday it will be 21-2. The Pats win big here 38-17.
Pats @ Bills
Minnesota Vikings @ Detroit Lions - I'm still surprised that the Vikings beat the 49ers last week. I didn't see that coming. Since 2001, the Vikings lead this series 15-7. But the Lions swept the Vikings last year and Detroit has won two in a row versus Minnesota at home. Give me the Lions here 35-34.
Vikings @ Lions
San Diego Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs - Last week against the New Orleans Saints Jamaal Charles was a total beast! Good to see Charles back and looking healthy. Now in this series, San Diego has won seven of the past nine but have lost two straight in Arrowhead. All that aside, I like the Chargers here. Chargers win a close one 21-20.
Chargers @ Chiefs
Seattle Seahawks @ St. Louis Rams - I'm a believer in the Seattle defense. Those guys can flat out ball. Seattle has lost only once in their last seven trips to St. Louis and last year Marshawn Lynch ran all over the Rams to the tune of 203 yards and two scores. But for some reason my gut tells me that the Rams are going to eke out a win here. Rams win 17-14.
Seahawks @ Rams
San Francisco 49ers @ New York Jets -
The Jets are a terrible team and there is no way they should've won last week but whatever. Now the 49ers have won nine of the last 11 all-time tilts and the last time the 49ers played the Jets in New York they lost 22-14. This time they win. I'm taking the 49ers here. They're a better team and with no Darrelle Revis for the Jets I think the 49ers wide receivers have a huge day. 49ers win 20-13.
49ers @ Jets
Tennessee Titans @ Houston Texans -
The Texans are looking like the team to beat in the AFC with their 29.3 points a game average. Believe it or not, since 2001 the Titans lead this series 14-6 with both teams splitting the series over the last four years. I just don't see the Titans winning this one. The Texans defense is just too good and all in all the Texans are a better team. I'm taking the Texans 31-20.
Titans @ Texans
Oakland Raiders @ Denver Broncos - Going back to 2001, the Broncos lead this series 12-10. The last time these two teams played, the Broncos won 38-24 in what was Carson Palmer's first start as the Raiders QB. This will be the first time that Peyton Manning faces the Raiders as the Broncos QB and I think the Broncos will prevail here. I like the Broncos to win 31-27.
Raiders @ Broncos
Miami Dolphins @ Arizona Cardinals -
The Cardinals are undefeated at home this year and I am a believer in what the Cardinals are about. They're a scrappy team that gets after you and will be in your face all day. The Cardinals have won their last two tilts versus the 'Fins and this Sunday will be their third. Cards win 24-3.
Dolphins @ Cardinals
Cincinnati Bengals @ Jacksonville Jaguars -
Now the Jaguars roll in to this meeting with an 11-7 edge in the series but have dropped the last two contests. When Bengals WR A.J. Green has at least 100 receiving yards the Bengals are 4-1. He will have at least that many yards on Sunday and the Bengals will win 27-24.
Bengals @ Jags
New Orleans Saints @ Green Bay Packers -
The Saints are winless and the Packers are 1-2. What the what? This is what I know: Since 2009, the Packers are 10-3 after a loss and that's why I'm taking the Pack here. It's hard to fathom that the Saints are going to fall to 0-4, but they will. Give me the Packers 38-24.
Saints @ Packers
Washington Redskins @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- In this little series the Buccaneers have won the last six regular season home contests. But that was before the Redskins had Robert Griffin III. That trend is about to change my friend. I like the 'Skins here to bounce back from last week's loss. Washington wins this battle 24-17.
'Skins @ Bucs
New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles -
This is the game of the week. My Giants squaring off against a divisional foe. Can't wait! Since 2001 the Eagles lead this series 16-8 and it kills me to type that. The Eagles pass defense has only allowed five completions of over 10 yards this season which is tops in the NFL. But then again, look at who they've played. That stat means zilch to me and I'm taking the Giants here 20-17 in a classic divisional showdown.
Giants @ Eagles
Chicago Bears @ Dallas Cowboys -
All I can say here is, "Go Bears!" The last time these two clubs got together the Bears prevailed 27-20 and that was in Dallas. The Cowboys offensive line is atrocious and the Bears can get after the passer. I'm taking the Bears here and I think Cutler gets back on track. Bears win 23-20 and Tony Romo will toss a game changing INT. Doesn't he always?
Bears @ Cowboys
Dylan Davis is an avid New York Giants fan and has grown up on New York Giants football. He's seen his G-Men win four Super Bowls and can't wait to see them win four more.

Klosterneuburg Mercenaries Austria

Klosterneuburg Mercenaries Austria, Emperor Ferdinand III., Duke of Austria, Styria, Count of Carinthia, Carniola etc., in the 1460es faced not only the animosity of King Georg Podiebrad of Bohemia (the Hussite King), but also the opposition of the city of Vienna and of the Estates of Styria. The rebels called upon the King of Bohemia for protection.
The Emperor was so short of cash that mercenaries he had hired and dispatched against his enemies went unpaid, and plundered the country. King Matthias Corvinus of Hungary took advantage of the situation by first marching against King Georg Podiebrad, and taking possession of Moravia, and then by supporting the rebels in Austria/Styria. Another complicating factor were Ottoman raids into Styria (1480).

In 1472, the Princearchbishop of Salzburg had placed the Salzburg exclaves in Styria and Carinthia under the protection of Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus. In 1479 hostilities between Hungarians and Habsburg Loyalists began. In 1482, Matthias Corvinus formally declared war on the Emperor. Hainburg, Baden (1482), Klosterneuburg (1483), Bruck an der Leitha (1484) fell to the Hungarians. The Battle of Leitzersdorf (May 11th 1484) ended with a Hungarian victory. Korneuburg (1484), Vienna (1485) surrendered after siege, Felsberg, Laa an der Thaya, Retz (1486), Wiener Neustadt (1487).

Lower Austria by now was under Hungarian occupation; Matthias Corvinus took up residence in Vienna; the excessive luxury of his court resulted in a considerable economic burden on the Viennese.

Meanwhile, a force of 3,000 mercenaries under the command of Duke Albrecht of Saxony arrived in Upper Austria and joined the Upper Austrian militia. Without a skirmish being fought, King Matthias and Duke Albrecht agree upon a truce; the mercenaries were disbanded (1487), with Upper Austria being made responsible for their pay. In 1488, peace negotiations were opened, but the truce repeatedly violated by marauding Hungarian troops.

King Matthias Corvinus died in 1490 in Vienna; with King Wladislaw of Bohemia first having to secure the Hungarian throne, the Hungarian forces in Lower Austria lacked leadership. They were expelled by a force commanded by King Maximilian. Maximilian even invaded Hungary, occupying Szekesfehervar (1491). On Nov. 7th 1491, in the Treaty of Bratislava (Pressburg), peace was concluded; Maximilian held on to occupied stretches of Hungary.
An asset in Habsburg policy were their good relations to the papacy; Pope Innocent VIII. in 1490, by freeing the people of Lower Austria of their oath of loyalty to the King of Hungary, took the side of the Habsburgers.

Nautica New York City Triathlon

Nautica New York City Triathlon, Two competitors died after experiencing problems during the swim portion of the Nautica New York City Triathlon, leading race organizers to consider demanding more documentation of athletes' training and experience.

The deaths were the second and third ones at the popular triathlon in the last three years.

On Monday, a New York City lawmaker called for a top-to-bottom review, questioning whether rain the night before – which could have led to choppy water and strong currents – or 90-degree temperatures were factors.

Race director Bill Burke called the deaths "a very, very sad occurrence and tragedy," but characterized the weather conditions during Sunday's race as optimal, with relatively mild temperatures and good cloud cover for much of the day. The temperature reached 89 degrees in Central Park on Sunday with high levels of humidity, according to the National Weather Service.

Burke said participants were not required to provide a health certificate or proof that they have participated in another triathlon – things he would like to see enacted in the future.

"It's something we're going to look at and try to put possible identifiers in place that can hopefully give us some indication and let the athletes know what they need to be careful about," he said. "Have you done an open-water swim? Have you participated in another triathlon? How much training have you put into this?"

Participants in the yearly race swim about a mile, bike 25 miles and run 6 miles.

They attend a mandatory briefing before the race that includes information about training and staying hydrated. Burke said it was not uncommon for some people to struggle with over-exertion. He said he most commonly sees heat-related problems like fatigue and dehydration.

"What we try to do at all of our events it to give the athletes as much knowledge as possible," he said. That includes posting information on the event website and emailing potential competitors about different training programs taking place in their communities that might better prepare them for the event.Michael Kudryk, 64, of Freehold, N.J., died Sunday after he was pulled out of the Hudson River unconscious. Police say he was believed to have suffered a heart attack.

A 40-year-old woman from Elmhurst, Ill., who was not identified at the family's request, died Monday. Burke said she was believed to have gone into cardiac arrest twice after Sunday's swim.

Police said 26 other participants needed assistance for minor injuries or pains throughout the swim.

"I already talked to the USA Triathlon this morning," Burke said. "We're certainly going to take a very hard look at everything, at how people prepare for this."

Three years ago, a 32-year-old competitor from Argentina was pulled from the water unconscious and later died. The medical examiner ruled that he died from hypertensive cardiovascular disease, a condition linked to high blood pressure. Race organizers said he apparently was unaware of his condition.

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer asked triathlon organizers to conduct a full review.

He cited a 2009 study by the Minneapolis Heart Institute that found athletes participating in triathlons have twice the risk of sudden death as those running in marathons. He also pointed out a recent study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association that found 14 people died while participating in triathlons, 13 of them while swimming, from 2006 to 2008.

"New Yorkers signed up for a triathlon – not a game of Russian Roulette," Stringer said. "Choosing to compete is a decision every athlete has to make for themselves, but it is the obligation of the city to make sure all potential risks are accounted for to the extent possible."

Dr. Kevin Harris, a cardiologist at the Minneapolis Heart Institute and lead author of the 2009 study, said anyone with risk factors for heart disease should get checked out before competing in a triathlon. Training is also crucial, particularly because it's difficult for participants to rest in the water if they start to tire, he said.

While it's difficult to replicate the conditions of a group swim, training in a larger body of water like a lake instead of a pool can help.

The triathlon has grown in popularity. Burke said more than 3,000 people participated in Sunday's race, the 11th one held, compared with 683 the first year. Athletes are selected via a lottery system, similar to major marathons.

Burke said safety was always the triathlon's No. 1 concern. For example, he said, in 2003, the swim portion was canceled due to high bacteria levels in the water.

In Central Park on Monday, several athletes said the news was unsettling but would not deter them from participating.

Annette Kiider, a 36-year-old personal trainer, said she entered the lottery for this year's New York City Triathlon but didn't get a spot.

"I still want to do it," she said. "I feel like the New York triathlon would be different and exciting. I know with the New York marathon, there's just so much energy."

John Egan, 33, said he had participated in triathlons and open-water swims. He said the "bunch start" where swimmers all dive into the water at once can be scary and disorienting. But the New York City triathlon already uses a more orderly system where 20 swimmers jump in at once.

Egan said he didn't think race organizers should be tasked with screening participants.

"If you choose to do it you should know your limits," he said. "I don't feel like it's the race organizers' responsibility. I feel like that's untenable."

John Cryer Bike Crash Recovery

John Cryer Bike Crash Recovery, The actor was taking part in California's Nautica Malibu Triathlon, which includes an ocean swim, an 18-mile (28.9-kilometre) cycle ride and a four-mile (6.4-kilometre) run, but pulled out midway through the second challenge after falling off his bike.

Cryer was pictured looking bloodied and bruised following the accident, and he has now revealed his injuries could have been a lot worse.

He tells TMZ.com, ""I have an awesome bike... it's what the pros use. Unfortunately I am not a pro cyclist... I decided to get super-aggressive as I was going down hill and I got to the bottom... going as fast I could possibly go, the wheel starts wobbling I over-corrected (it) and absolutely just ate it. I did the wobbling back skid where the bike just flies out from underneath you... I skidded probably like 15 feet on my skin... You know how cyclists wear the leotard that offers zero protection? I used that to break my fall.""

The star admits he is thankful to have been wearing a helmet because otherwise he would have suffered a nasty head injury: ""My helmet took the brunt of it thankfully. I could feel the helmet cracking as my head went back... I could feel the helmet giving way. I was like, I really don't want to buy it.""

Cryer later visited his doctor and confirmed he hadn't sustained any lasting damage, adding, ""I went to the doctor today and I didn't break anything, which is awesome but they can't tell if I have torn ligaments or anything like that...

""Interestingly I found the hardest thing to do when you have torn the skin off your shoulder and your leg is reach for the parking ticket at the doctor's office.""

Jenna Lee Fox Business News

Jenna Lee Fox Business News, You watch 29-year-old Jenna Lee on the Fox Business Network and imagine her life of fame, fortune and -- especially -- glamour. Who wouldn't want the life of a budding television-news star?

For openers, you had better have boundless stamina and an unshakable love for the work. Lee is a Fox Business anchor, whose duties include anchoring the 5-6 a.m. "Fox Business Morning" and the 6-9 a.m. Web show "FoxBusiness.com Live/Morning Edition."

Plus, Lee is now a part of the "Imus in the Morning" simulcast -- which started appearing last week on Fox Business -- and she also delivers breaking-news updates and pre-market reports. She handles updates on the Fox News Channel, too.

Observing Lee since she started on Fox, I've noticed her growth. When she started, the lack of polish showed. Now, she looks and sounds like a poised, seasoned TV journalist, who is headed for a higher profile.

TV news is glamorous life -- to a point. Remember, Lee is usually sound asleep by 8:30 at night and is usually at her desk at Fox by 2:30 a.m.

"You're going on the air at 5, whether you like it or not, so you have to be prepared," she said. Spoken like a TV-news lifer.

That has been Lee's world since she joined Fox Business shortly before its launch two years ago. (Full disclosure: News Corp. (US:NWS) owns MarketWatch and Fox, and I have appeared occasionally on Fox Business.)

The unconventional schedule makes it difficult for her to have a normal life.

"It's tough for someone from the outside looking in to understand the schedule," she said. "And it's tough for me, simply because I'm sleeping when others are awake."

She shrugged. "The days do tend to run together."

Fame trap
Prior to joining Fox, Lee, a graduate of the Columbia School of Journalism, worked at Forbes.com and the local news channel NY1.

One of Lee's biggest adjustments has been accepting the notion that she is regarded as a celebrity in some circles.

It helps for her to discuss life as a public figure with her father, former National Football League quarterback Bob "The General" Lee. (Jenna can in turn enlighten her brother, University of Nebraska quarterback Zac Lee, on handling the media.)

Lee has to contend with the blogosphere, in which an invasion of privacy is a fact of life. She doesn't see herself as a celebrity. When she discusses the blogs, it's as if she's talking about another Jenna Lee.

"It's been surprising how much the viewers want to know about me," she said. "I'm so focused on the work. I don't think I'm so interesting. I feel rather unremarkable."

Lee shakes her head. "To be perceived only as an attractive young woman, that's not how I view myself," she said. "It's not a bother, but it can be confusing when people judge me on the way I look."

Liz Claman, a veteran TV journalist and a colleague of Lee's, puts it in perspective: "We're not doing radio here. We're doing TV. You have to be presentable and smart."

Happening Now with Jon Scott

Happening Now with Jon Scott, Exciting news for our loyal Happening Now viewers—the Chat is back!
If you were one of the regulars who joined us for some rousing discussions in months past, you know what you’ve been missing: the chance to interact, live, with us–Harris, Rick, Jenna, Jon and our news producers, plus the opportunity to share your thoughts and opinions with Happening Now viewers around the nation and even around the globe.

We loved it, and we’ve missed it too.

But if you were one of our regular chatters, you know what happened. A small but well-organized band of knuckleheads crawled out of some slimy netherworld for the sole purpose of bombarding our chat page with some rather vile and disgusting comments. We tried to eliminate their foul rants as soon as they popped up but it reached the point where it wasn’t practical; the inmates were running the asylum, and shutting down the chat was the easier, albeit temporary, option.

None of us here liked letting the bad guys win. This is America, after all! Feel free to speak your mind, but don’t put forward a bunch of foul-mouthed nonsense , insulting and degrading others, under the guise of free speech. If you were insulted by any of the comments posted during the waning days of the previous chat, we apologize—some people simply like to yell “Fire!” in a crowded theater.

We desperately wanted to restore 2-way communications with you and provide a venue for you to resume intelligent, pointed commentary about the news of the day. We searched for a way to open a chat room that keeps tighter control over participants and especially their comments. We believe we’ve found a great way to accomplish that.

Mario Lopez X Factor host with khloe kardashian

Mario Lopez X Factor host with khloe kardashian, X Factor’s season two might’ve premiered last week, but the show is still missing one thing… a HOST!

While we already know Demi Lovato has been favoring her good friend Khloe Kardashian and Simon Cowell DID recently say she was still in the running, no one's been named!
So what’s taking so long???

Well according to one of our sources, Khloe and AC Slater Mario Lopez ARE finally locked in to host the show this time around!

Wait… we thought Simon said he preferred someone with NO hosting experience? Guess he made an exception for the Extra and ABDC host!
Though nothing official has been announced yet, it sounds like these two are pretty much a done deal!

We think Khloe would make a really dynamic host and bring her sense of humor and that Mario's dimples are enough to soothe anyone's rejection! Ha!
X Factor’s first live show airs on November 1st, after the auditions, boot camp and judges’ houses rounds are completed! Guess we'll see them in action then!

Natalie Morales Triathlete Magazine

Natalie Morales Triathlete Magazine, Natalie Morales, mother of two, co-anchor of NBC’s The Today Show, and five-time marathon finisher, recently competed in her first triathlon.  Morales raced in the War At The Shore Triathlon in Long Branch, NJ.
The race consisted of a .3-mile swim, a 9.5-mile bike and a 3-mile run. Morales placed fifth in her age group.  When asked if she’ll continue with triathlons, she said: “I’m hooked!”  We caught up with her after the race to hear about her experience.
Triathlete: Tell us a bit about your athletic background.

Morales: I’ve pretty much been a jock my whole life. Until about 11th grade, I went to high school in Madrid, Spain where I played volleyball, softball and soccer because we didn’t have a track team. But when I moved to the United States my senior year, I started running a lot on my own and that’s when I developed my love for running. When I moved to New York, I joined the Roadrunner’s Club and decided in 1995 that I would run a marathon.  From there, my passion picked up and I started training seriously.  I ran the New York Marathon in 1995 and 1996, Hartford, CT in 2001 and 2002, and after a 10-year break from New York, I ran it again in 2006.
Triathlete:What inspired you to compete in a triathlon?

Morales: SELF Magazine threw The Today Show the challenge and I thought, “You know what?  I’m up to it!” Having been only a runner prior to this, I had my work cut out for me in preparing for the swim. I trained with a swim coach who helped me build my strength and endurance. I eventually got to the point where I could swim 30 laps with no problem. Before training, I was exhausted at four laps!
Triathlete: Of the three triathlon legs, what did you fear the most?
Morales: I was so afraid of the swim because I swam the course the day before the race and jellyfish were everywhere; I’m one of those people who does not like swimming with other things. But in the end, the swim was the most exciting because I faced my fear and pulled it off.

Triathlete: Describe how you felt after the race.
Morales: Because I had trained and conditioned, thankfully I was not sore. The overall emotion I had was exuberance and excitement that I did it and had fun.  At the end of the race, I immediately thought: “Okay, I’ve got to find another race.” I can see how triathlons become addictive.
Triathlete: Now that you’re officially a triathlete, will you continue down this path or go back to running marathons?

Morales: I’m hooked. While talking with my trainer the other day I asked, “When can I sign up for my next race?” I started with a sprint-distance race and I think my next triathlon will be an Olympic-distance. I’m definitely continuing with triathlons. And once my children are a bit older, I’d like to try a half-Ironman.  You see, as a marathon runner, you eventually reach a certain point where you wonder: “How much longer and how much further?” Whereas with a triathlon, you transition so much that it allows you to break up not only the physical motion, but also to alternate the psychological challenge.

riathlete: Do you ever race with friends or family?
Morales: I’ve run all five marathons with my husband and we’ve always finished together. He has never done a triathlon, but as he watched me cross the finish line, he had a fire in his eyes. He said he definitely wants to race in one.
Triathlete: What would you say to mothers who struggling with motivating themselves to train for an event?

Morales: Here’s the real motivator: do you want to have the tightest buns and abs ever? That worked for me, though I think I need a few more races to get me there. Seriously, you’ll never be in better shape in your life. Because I have made a point of scheduling workouts and because you break it up so much, I am so much more efficient and am usually home a lot earlier these days. And here’s the major bonus, if you want to be the best example and mom to your kids: give yourself a little over an hour a few days a week and you’ll be the most present, most involved, most high-energy mom. When I crossed the finish line my son told me he wanted to train for one too.  Training for a triathlon is an example that I gave him of working hard, committing to something, and then enjoying the success of accomplishment.
Triathlete: Do you have any advice for people racing in their first marathon or triathlon?

Morales: Giving yourself enough time to train before the race, whether it be a triathlon or marathon, is the most important because you don’t want to injure yourself.  Recently, my friend was training for her first marathon and as she started adding on the miles, she let her ambition get the best of her. By not taking a break between her long runs, she ended up injuring herself. Give your body time to heal and slowly increase your mileage. When training for your first triathlon, start with a sprint-distance race, gradually working your way up to longer races. Whatever discipline it is or whichever sport it is that you feel is your weakest, work you hardest with that and when race time has come, you’ll be well prepared.

Ali Vincent on the Biggest Loser

Ali Vincent on the Biggest Loser, Ali Vincent, the first woman to win the NBC weight loss show "The Biggest Loser," is getting her own television series. The 36-year-old's new reality show, "Live Big with Ali Vincent," is set to debut on the ABC-owned Live Well HD cable network on September 4 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT. It will see her traveling across the United States as part of "a personal mission to help others discover their true selves," according to a statement obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com on Friday.

"Highlights will include poignant transformational moments as Ali and her team of experts motivate participants to take control of their futures and live the lives they always imagined," the statement said. "Additional segments will offer viewers advice on cooking, working out and living happier and healthier lives."

The series is produced by KABC Television, parent company of OnTheRedCarpet.com.

Vincent, a 5'5" former competitive synchronized swimmer, lost almost half of her body weight during her time on the fifth season of "The Biggest Loser," which aired in 2008. She started out at 234 pounds and weighed 122 pounds when she won the competition.

"When I was training for the finale, I was training like an Olympic athlete to win," Vincent told OnTheRedCarpet.com exclusively. "It was not healthy for me to stay at 122 pounds with 11 percent body fat, as I lost my menstrual cycle."

"I live my life between 125 and 130 pounds, depending on the time of the month, and my body composition has changed to around 18 percent body fat," she added. "I honestly got too skinny immediately after and am up to probably 140 pounds today. But that is what 'Live Big' is all about for me. Finding balance, feeling comfortable in our own skin and living the life of our dreams through conversation and building support systems."

Vincent lives in Spokane, Washington. She has in recent years worked as a motivational speaker and released a book called "Believe It, Be It: How Being the Biggest Loser Won Me Back My Life" in November 2009.

The show started production in June and continues to film, mostly in Los Angeles. Vincent has posted messages about it on her Twitter page.

Vincent continues to maintain a healthy lifestyle. She competes in triathlons. Her workout playlist is posted on her Facebook page.

On Wednesday, she Tweeted: "I just got amazing veggies and flowers from the Farmers market, have you been to your Farmers market?"

The Biggest Loser

The Biggest Loser, How does it feel to be crowned the winner of The Biggest Loser? It feels amazing. Winning is the icing on the cake after training very hard in the house for a long time. While in Camp Biggest Loser, you don’t have any access to the outside world. I’ve never been to jail, but that’s what it feels like. But it needed to be that way so we could concentrate on the job at hand, which is to lose weight and change who you are.

How have you celebrated your win so far?

It’s been very low key. I went out and had a few drinks with friends after the final last night. Brenda came too – we had a great night with both our families and friends. From my time in the house, Brenda will be the one that I stick with. We’ve formed a very good friendship and a tight bond. Both Bek and Brenda have played key roles in my success.

What about your trainer Michelle Bridges?

We’ll definitely keep in touch. Michelle really got a lot out of me and pushed me to the limits. She was as deserving of this win as I was so she will always be a friend of mine.

What is your exercise plan for the near future?

I’m being trained by Sharif [Deen], who was a Biggest Loser contestant [in 2009] but is now involved with CrossFit. I want to drop another 5kg and tone up, so I’ll be training five to six days a week. It’s not something I have to do, I want to.

Did you ever think you’d win the competition?

When we came back from Switzerland, I found that self-belief. I started to think: ‘Yeah, I can take this out if I work hard.’

Who else did you think could have been a likely winner?

I thought Alex would be the toughest one to beat. He’s a weight loss machine and was mentally the strongest in the house. At the beginning, I thought Lyds could possibly take out the title, but as time went on and I got fitter, I realised that we both had a chance.

How does it feel looking back at photos of yourself before The Biggest Loser?
I still struggle to look at myself before the Biggest Loser. I carried that weight around for seven years – that’s a long time. I really let myself go and didn’t treat myself right. I try and focus on the pictures I’ve got of me now and think about where I want to be in the future.

Do you get recognised while out in public?

I got mobbed at the shops recently and had to call my sister to rescue me. People stop me when I’m running, pull their cars over when I’m trying to cross at lights, yell out and beep their horn. The response has been amazing. That support contributed to my success because thinking of it helped me put my shoes to train on every morning in the build-up to finale.

Do you think that you played the Biggest Loser game?

Everyone did, because part of the game was to lose weight and win challenges. I tried to win the challenges and lose weight every week so that I’d stay above the yellow line. It was imperative for me to stay for as long as I could. It was never about the money, it was about losing weight and being happy. If that meant playing the game, then that’s what I did.

Obviously the focus of The Biggest Loser this year was on ‘singles’. Have you had any romantic interest since filming finished?

There’s a bit of interest there. (Pauses and smiles) I’ve met someone special but it’s early days, so let’s just see how it all pans out. We’ll just wait and see.

What was it like to watch Hamish and Michelle and Simon and Lisa falling in love in Camp Biggest Loser?

It was quite entertaining! It took the focus off me and allowed me to do what I needed to do. When you’re in the spotlight all the time it’s hard to get things done, so them forming relationships in there was a good distraction.

Do you think both those couples will last?

It’s hard to say whether they’ve got bright futures. We were in Camp Biggest Loser 24/7 and were with each other 24/7. When you get taken out of that environment and placed in everyday situations, things can change. I hope that they all work out, because everyone wants to be loved and everyone wants to be happy.

Do you have exciting plans for your prize money?

I’ve got a couple of bills and a big mortgage, so it will be a relief for me financially.

What are your hopes for the future?

I want to continue on this journey of self-discovery. I want to keep fit, appreciate every day and hopefully one day I’ll find that special someone... which I may have, it’s early stages. I don’t have any temptations in the real world when it comes to food. I’m now living life and enjoying my friends and family and that is the most important thing.
