Simpsons actor sues

Simpsons actor sues, A "Simpson" actor sued a former friend over a baseball announcer voice that both men claim they created.

Hank Azaria and his company How to Pictures, Inc. are suing actor Craig Bierko in U.S. District Court in Central California, according to information made available on Nov. 16, 2012. The lawsuit was filed last Wednesday. It alleges that Bierko has claimed a voice created by Azaria three decades ago.

"The Simpsons" actor Hank Azaria claims he created "a colorful baseball announcer who speaks with peculiar speech inflections" in 1983 or earlier. Azaria and Bierko met in 1990, and Azaria allegedly performed the voice for Bierko sometime after they met, reported The Wrap.

The character in question is named Jim Brockmire. He is a sportscaster whose characteristics include a distinctive jacket and sad back story. In 2010, Jim Brockmire made his official Internet debut in a popular Funny or Die skit.

The description from the website reads, "The Jim Brockmire story tells the true story of a truly old-school sportscaster who was well before his time. He set the standard for how to call a baseball game and he loved his wife more than anything else until one fateful day when his sportscasting career changed forever." The skit in question was so popular, in fact, that Azaria entered into discussions to produce a feature-length motion picture based on the character. Those negotiations could be in jeopardy now that Bierko has claimed he created the voice either independently or as a collaborative effort with Azaria. "The Simpsons" actor seeks to gain full credit for the Brockmire voice and bar Bierko from any affiliation with the character.
