D’Arcy’s Animal Rescue Centre in Winnipeg, Canada, is quite possibly one of the most incredible animal shelters I have ever had the pleasure of volunteering in. While living in Canada it was something that I took part in once or twice a week for a four hour time slot. The volunteering process is so incredibly organized and well managed, I've never seen anything like it before.
I was volunteering before they moved from the location on Portage in a super old building with a basement, lacking the space they needed for all the animals, supplies and storage. But even then they utilized the space incredibly well and made humans and animals as comfortable as possible.
It is so wonderful how dedicated these people were and still are to the well being of the animals and the pride they take in their establishment. The strides they took and how swiftly they raised enough funds to move to a bigger facility was admirable, and the bigger location is so beautiful and impressive.
I truly miss the people and animals, especially the blind old girl cat Spec's who I fostered and loved for a while, may she rest in kitty peace! I still have my fat cat Osiris who I adopted in 2006 as a kitten :)
The adoption fee for kittens includes vaccinations, tattooing, and spay or neuter when the time comes, but don't forget that adult doggies and kitties need love too. They even have many wonderful FIV cats that are quite possibly some of the most mild mannered cats ever.
Please give them a visit and a donation, or just say hello. They are wonderful people and animals!
