Comic Character Ms. Marvel is Now a Muslim Teen, Kamala Khan, a 16-year old daughter of Pakistani immigrants to the U.S., is about to assume to role of Ms. Marvel in Marvel Comics’ remake of its classic character from 1977.
“It’s for all the geek girls out there and everybody else who’s ever looked at life from the fringe,” writer G. Willow Wilson told the Associated Press.
Ms. Marvel will be among the first protagonists to be both female and Muslim. The comics will tell a story of impending adulthood and coming to grips with amazing powers as well as explore “the Muslim-American diaspora from an authentic perspective,” as editor Sana Amanat puts it.
The new super-heroine will be able to grow and shrink her limbs and body and, ultimately, shape-shift into other forms.
