Steelers' Troy Polamalu to get first haircut in more than a decade

Steelers' Troy Polamalu to get first haircut in more than a decade, Troy Polamalu is a great football player, but he is almost as famous for his long, flowing hair.

But now the Pittsburgh Steelers safety has decided to lose his lucrative locks for charity.

So of course, that means he'll be getting a haircut -- his first one in more than 10 years.

The former USC standout announced Thursday on Facebook that he will be getting a ceremonial haircut on Veterans Day as part of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Mane Event.

Polamalu has kept his hair long in tribute to his Samoan heritage. The 3-foot-long locks have landed him a Head & Shoulders shampoo advertising campaign and are insured for $1 million.

But he came up with the idea of cutting his hair as a way to raise awareness and money for the VFW. Now he's hoping others will follow his lead.
