Bette Midler slams singers Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga for brazen ways, Bette, 67, who has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and has received two Academy Award nominations, seemed to be aiming her criticism at Britney Spears’ new video in which she provocatively whips other women.
“I think there’s a difference between pushing the envelope sexually and pushing the envelope creatively,” Bette told talk show host Katie Couric. “I think you can be as creative as you want to be and as inventive as you want to be but I think the idea of whipping other girls... There’s a grossness to it that I think is not flattering to people, to the women themselves.”
Both Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus have recently worn skimpy outfits on stage which have sparked complaints and Bette says singers must choose suitable ways to be creative. She adds that today’s stars don’t always get it wrong.
“Not all the time, I’m not saying all the time because some people are very sensitive about the way they use their bodies and the way they use their sexual power. But I do think that when it is really gross, when it is really coarse, it is so demeaning, not just to them but to all women and I don’t really like it. I don’t like it.
