Woman riding manatee

Woman riding manatee, A woman riding a manatee at Fort DeSoto Park has spurred a police hunt. On Sunday afternoon, the woman was caught riding the manatee, and Pinellas authorities are searching for the woman according to an October 2 report from WTSP News 10.

The woman was spotted riding the manatee on Sunday afternoon near the Gulf Pier. Police responded to a call informing them of the situation, but when they arrived, they could not locate her. The reason this woman is wanted is because the Florida Manatee Sanctuary Act says,

"It is unlawful for any person at any time, by any means, or in any manner, intentionally or negligently to annoy, molest, harass, or disturb or attempt to molest, harass, or disturb any Manatee."

It seems that a woman riding a manatee would be considered disturbing or harassing the animal. What she did was illegal. In fact, the violation is a second degree misdemeanor in Florida.

Ultimately, Ana Gloria Garcia Gutierrez, 52, turned herself into police after she found out that she was a wanted woman. She claimed ignorance of the law because she is new to the area. Officials do not believe that the manatee was injured during the wild ride.

The moral of this strange story is do not ride a manatee in Florida. It is against the law, and you could harm the creature.
