Dog that lost snout, The dog that lost its snout but saved two children is facing another hurdle today. Planned reconstructive surgery has been delayed. Unfortunately, the dog is facing several health problems, unrelated to the loss of its muzzle.
These conditions will need to be addressed before surgery can be performed to replace the dog's snout. On Oct. 16, 2012, Boston.com reported, "Kabang needs treatment for heartworm and chemotherapy for a vaginal tumor before she can undergo facial reconstruction."
Kabang the dog was transported from its home in the Philippines to the University of California, Davis last week. Veterinarians there will attempt to fix the horrific injuries the dog sustained while saving two little girls. Doctors at UC Davis believe it will take multiple procedures to improve the dog's tragic situation. Veterinarians in the Philippines didn't have the ability or the resources to help the heroic dog.
Photos of the dog that lost its snout show a warm and loving pooch whose face stops just below the eyes where its nose and upper jaw were cut off when Kabang leaped into the path of a speeding motorcycle to protect its owner's niece and daughter. The dog still has its lower jaw and tongue, which protrude grotesquely from its face.
Kabang, the dog that lost its snout, was brought to the United States thanks to the efforts of a New York nurse whose fundraising efforts enabled the dog to leave the Philippines for treatment.
