Derek Jeter Surgery

Derek Jeter Surgery, Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has elected to have surgery to repair his fractured left ankle fracture, and will undergo the procedure this weekend.According to the Yankees PR department, the surgery will be done by Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, N.C., on Saturday
, and recovery time is expected to be about four-to-five months – a timetable that would mean Jeter should be ready to return to the field sometime shortly before or sometime during Spring Training.

Jeter played through what was termed a bone bruise in his left ankle throughout the final month of the 2012 regular season, and left Game 1 of the American League Championship Series last Saturday after fracturing that same ankle while fielding a ground ball in the 12th inning.

Early Sunday morning, after X-rays at Yankee Stadium revealed the fracture, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he believed there could be a link to Jeter's earlier ankle injuries and the fracture that ended his season.

"It very well could be related,'' Cashman said. “He's been so banged up with that foot, I would think it is related, yeah.''

Jeter first saw Dr. Anderson, a renowned foot and ankle specialist who has treated many top New York sports stars (including New York Giants players Ahmad Bradshaw and Hakeem Nicks) on Tuesday, and the Yankees announced The Captain’s election for surgery in a release on Wednesday afternoon.
