Sean Penn Marriage, The "Gangster Squad" actor says love eluded him when he wed Robin Wright and first wife, Madonna. Both marriages ended in heartbreaking splits and the actor is getting a few things off his chest.
According to a Dec. 12 report by Huffington Post, Penn admits that he has never really felt loved by someone.
Sean Penn opened up to Esquire Magazine about his marriages to Robin Wright and Madonna. He said after his last marriage, things became clear. The actor said:
"When you get divorced, all the truths that come out, you sit there and you go, 'What the f**k was I doing? What was I doing believing that this person was invested in this way?'"
Things came to a head when Sean and Robin split three years ago. At that point, he had to take on the tough task of still being a father through the trauma of the divorce.
When his son, Hooper, had a very serious skateboarding accident that required brain surgery and heavy doses of Morphine, Penn admitted he was drawn even closer to his child.
However, after he recovered, his daughter did her own thing and his son moved in with Robin.
When Sean Penn's marriage ended, it also forced him to get used to living single again. He tried night after night, visiting bars, but striking out. He found himself taking in long nights of watching television and getting drunk.
Then, the earthquake in Haiti happened, giving him the idea of starting a charity to help those in need. In doing so, he learned that the pain from those impacted by the storm took place long before the event itself. He likens it to human suffering.
Although Sean Penn's marriage with Robin Wright is over; in the end, he found clarity and strength in his own life.
