Virgin Mary Statue Unearthed, Are you looking for a miracle this holiday season? The residents at the Golden Pond Assisted Living Facility think they have unearthed it.
“They are blessing us, she came to us to be with us on this holiday,” said Beverly Dutile, a resident.
A 4-foot statue of the Virgin Mary was uncovered during a 38,000-square foot expansion project.
“I think that for all faiths and for all beliefs this is an incredible finding,” said Joan Borowitz, a resident.
Seemingly perfect, the Mother Mary statue hardly has a scratch on it, which in itself is amazing considering the excavator shovel that revealed it.
A back hoe unearthed the statue and dropped it in a pile, where a resident happened to see it.
“He ran into the building and ran straight to the Deacon and said they just found the Virgin Mary,” said Bill Marr, Golden Pond executive director.
The local historical society was contacted. The hope is that come January the statue will find a home in the new chapel at Golden Pond. Until then, the statue will remain in the lobby as a daily reminder of faith for many residents.
