Jay Cutler injury

Jay Cutler injury, Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler labeled himself "day to day" after he left Sunday's 21-14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings late in the fourth quarter with what the team termed a neck injury.

The Bears did not say whether Cutler had suffered a stinger or if it was more severe. One positive sign: Cutler talked to the media after the game. A player with a serious injury usually does not talk with the media.

Cutler said his neck felt "stiff." After throwing an incompletion on fourth down with 4:31 remaining, he did not return.

Jason Campbell finished the game and threw a touchdown pass to Brandon Marshall. Campbell hasn't shown Cutler's mobility and is more likely to throw checkdown passes. The Bears, who have a huge game next week against division-leading Green Bay at Soldier Field, haven’t handled Cutler’s absences well the past two years. They are 1-6 when he has been unable to start.

Coach Lovie Smith said Cutler did not play after suffering the injury. Asked about the play in which the injury occurred, Smith said, "I can't really speak on it right now. I don't know. He took a hit. I don't know much other than that."

Cutler threw two interceptions that proved decisive in the game. One was returned for a touchdown and the other to the Bears’ 6-yard line to set up a touchdown. Cutler finished 22-of-44 for 260 yards and one TD.

He was the only Bears starter who did not finish the game due to injury, although kicker Robbie Gould suffered a left calf strain in warmups and could only kick from placement. Punter Adam Podlesh replaced him on kickoffs.
