Gun found in frozen meat

Gun found in frozen meat, A gun was found in a box containing frozen meat shipped to an Albertson's grocery store in Roswell, New Mexico, a Dec. 7 report on NBC News reveals. On Wednesday, a store employee was unwrapping the shipment sent from a packing plant in Colorado when he discovered the weapon in the same box the meat was shipped in.

Not only was the firearm accompanying the frozen meat, but there were seven rounds of ammunition included. If that wasn't bad enough, the meat was packaged on June 8, 2011.

Unfortunately for police, the Albertson's worker took it upon himself to clean the gun before turning it over to them. This will make tracing where the gun came from more difficult for the Roswell Police Department.

No one in the area has reported a missing gun, so the next step authorities are taking is to enter the weapon's serial number into the National Crime Information Center. It could take weeks or months before results are produced. Authorities note that if the gun had gone missing it should have been recorded by now.

It would be an unsettling discovery to find an unexpected gun anywhere, let alone inside a frozen meat package.
