New raiders mascot |
The Raider Rusher will be formally introduced to about 100 local elementary school students on Tuesday afternoon at the Raiders' facility in Alameda, Calif.
The Raiders, who have never had a mascot like this, are hoping to use Raider Rusher to get more kid-friendly.
"He's the latest addition to the silver and black's community relations roster," said team spokesman Mike Taylor. "Our goal is to continue to enhance our youth initiatives and add to our community relations assets."
The character will appear in Raiderville, the Raiders' interactive tailgate section, at all home games and be found inside three kids zones located inside the O.co Coliseum. Taylor says the team currently has no plans to use him on the field.
The Raiders (1-1), who take on the Denver Broncos (2-0) on "Monday Night Football," might be feeling the pressure to reach their next generation of fans. The team has finished last in the league in attendance for three of the past four seasons.
