Chris Brown, Elton John and Katy Perry hang out at the iHeartRadio music festival - as you do, We like to imagine that Elton John and Chris Brown had a catch up backstage over a lovely cup of Earl Grey and a croissant

We're used to unexpected celebrity friendships. After all, just look at Gwyneth Paltrow and Rita Ora having a chinwag in Los Angeles last week and working their way through a macrobiotic bread basket.

But we can't quite get our head around the atmosphere backstage at the iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas this weekend.

With a line up that included everybody from Chris Brown to Elton John, Muse to Kelly Rowland and Katy Perry to TLC, we like to imagine that the whole thing was a bit like those backstage-at-the-X-Factor montage sequences. You know, the bits when the camera pans around a room full of nervous individuals with big hair, big voices and small self-esteem issues? And they all appear to be sitting on boxes? Yeah. That.

Unfortunately, we were wrong, and our insiders have informed us that the performers at iHeartRadio were all given their own dressing rooms.

But that doesn't mean that Elton John didn't discuss the weather with the likes of Kate Hudson (oh yeah, she was there too, don't worry). Or that Chris Brown didn't make eye contact with his ex-girlfriend's best mate (Katy Perry, we're talking about you).

The night kicked off with a performance of Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke - half because it seems to be the only song he knows how to sing. And half because Las Vegas hasn't got round to banning it yet.

And with that out of the way, Katy Perry came on stage to play her old hits ("I have a record coming out in October, but that doesn't mean I ain't gonna play the songs you wanna hear right now," she announced, only-slightly-bitterly), and Elton John took to the piano for a rendition of Tiny Dancer and Benny And The Jets - not to mention a few others that you may or may not have heard of.

The festival, which takes place over three days in Las Vegas, is described as one of the world's biggest music events - and with ten acts performing on the Friday night who are all successful enough to headline a festival on their very own, we kinda wish we'd got tickets.
