The hosts were referring to Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine (who is scheduled to make his TV acting debut in “American Horror Story” season 2).
As previously reported, Hewitt named Levine during a visit to “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” when DeGeneres asked her if she had any celebrity crushes. Since then, the internet has been buzzing about Hewitt's remark and Levine's reaction.
Today, “Talk” co-host Aisha Tyler asked Hewitt if she felt like the reaction would’ve been the same if it had been a guy tweeting about a cute woman.
Hewitt said, “I don’t. I honestly feel like guys are allowed to say, ‘Oh, yeah, I’d hit that’ or whatever they want to say all the time. And we’re supposed to say ‘Oh thank you. Sure, hit it, why not?' If a girl says a guy is cute, they’re like wow, let’s calm that down. I didn’t mean anything. It was just meant to be silly and fun and it sort of got blown out of proportion.”
Levine appeared on “Ellen” just last week and jokingly said “that was aggressive” concerning Hewitt's remarks. He followed up by saying, “It was really sweet and flattering. Beautiful life, you know, when a beautiful woman says nice things about you.”
Hewitt was obviously embarrassed by the whole eventt. On April 27th, she tweeted, “The moment when you make a comment about something or someone and the world makes you feel like a total fool. #keepcrushesquiet.”
Then she followed up 2 tweets later with a message directly to Levine saying, “Thank you to @adamlevine for being so gracious on Ellen about my crush heard round the world. I've learned lesson. #Sssh.”
Levine has since followed up his “Ellen” appearance with a stop by “The Tonight Show” last week and the topic didn’t come up in conversation. He did, however, share that “American Horror Story” creator Ryan Murphy is a friend, and Murphy is the one who pitched joining AHS to him.
Levine will definitely fit in nicely with fellow AHS hunky men Evan Peters and Zachary Quinto, who are returning from season 1 to play completely different characters.
Levine is slated to play the male part of a pair called “The Lovers.” Wouldn’t it be interesting if Jennifer Love Hewitt played his better half?
“Talk” co-host Sara Gilbert told Hewitt she wanted “more dirt” and asked Hewitt how she felt about one of her former famous rocker beaus, John Mayer, swearing off celebrity dating.
Hewitt joked, “It’s obviously my fault. I think that’s fine. I don’t, personally for me, decide whether I’m gonna date celebrities or not celebrities. It’s more about the person. So I think if he feels that way I respect him. He’s a good guy. I think that he, like a lot of people, has had trouble in love and stuff like that. So if he feels like that’s the choice he needs to make that’s awesome.”
Hewitt added that overall, she thinks that dating is hard and it’s been a struggle for her, regardless of who the person was or what they did for a living.
Another one of Hewitt’s notable exes is ironically Adam Levine’s “Voice” colleague, Carson Daly.
“The Client List” airs Sundays at 10 PM EST on Lifetime.
