Iron Man Edition Audi R8 |
Current owner John Garza said that when he told his wife he was looking to buy an R8, she insisted that he find something similar to the car in the blockbuster movie. After a search, Garza said he located a similar car in California and started to go over the paperwork on the phone.
It wasn't until the deal was all but completed that the manager told Garza that he was buying the actual car used in the film.
The manufacturer also provided documentation proving the car was indeed the Audi from the movie.
Garza said actor Robert Downey Jr. owned the car for a while and the dealer wasn't allowed to promote the R8 as a celebrity-owned vehicle.
Over the course of his ownership, Garza said he was contacted by someone at Audi who wanted to use the R8 for an event. When the car was returned it was wearing unique Iron Man graphics that Audi had installed.
Garza said people are always asking about the car. "Car cleaning companies call me up because they want to come and clean the car from Iron Man."
The R8 is Audi's first mid engine sports car. It comes with a 420 horsepower V8 engine and Quattro all-wheel drive. The Iron Man R8 is equipped with Audi's single clutch R-Tronic transmission, which means the car is capable of a 0-60 time of around 4.6 seconds.
Whoever specced out the car before filming didn't skimp on the optional extras. The car is also equipped with the optional carbon fiber side strake, navigation and Bang & Olufsen premium stereo system.
Brand new, the R8 cost $143,050 but the seller is currently asking $114,900 which is pretty much dead on with the dealer estimate from KBB.
