Two Arrested Smuggling 187 Pounds Marijuana

Two men were arrested over the weekend for transporting a large amount of marijuana.

Casa Grande Police Officers working "Operation Stone Garden" conducted a traffic stop on a Ford F150 in the area of Highway 347 and Kortsen Road. The occupants did not have identification and the truck did not belong to them.

The subjects fled on foot into the desert and were detained after a short foot pursuit.

The driver of the truck, identified as 34-year-old Roberto Chavez-Rojas, had a federal warrant for probation violation for illegal re-entry into the United States. The passenger was identified as 48-year-old Paz Olivas-Lara.

There were 4 bundles of marijuana inside the bed of the truck and 4 bundles in the interior of the truck. The total weight was 187 pounds with a street value of $121,000.

The suspects were booked into the Pinal County Jail on charges including possession of marijuana for sale.
