If you study the various bits and pieces written about the Robertson's past, you realize there were more challenges to Miss Kay’s life with Phil Robertson than just scraping by while they were building the business. Although, feeding four kids on around $8,000 a year during the first year was certainly difficult.

Miss Kay Robertson, at 24, had been married 8 years and had three boys and a husband who was “headed south,” as Phil describes his wild life. Thankfully, Kay Robertson did stand by her man, and after he became a Christian, everything changed. That was 38 years ago, and he is still telling people about how his life was changed.

But, this may explain the deference and sweet consideration that Phil Robertson affords Miss Kay. He knows how she so patiently stood by him many, many years ago.
