Pamela Anderson felt it was important to become a U.S. citizen so she could vote |
The former Baywatch star, 45, landed a £150,000 deal regardless of how well she fared on the ITV series.
Show chiefs were left “gobsmacked” when she was in the bottom two with Keith Chegwin and subsequently messed up her routine when one of her boobs popped out of her dress.
Judges unanimously voted her off on Sunday night, meaning she only performed one 90-second dance and a 60-second skate-off before her exit.
A source said: “Pammy is the biggest star we have had in years and we hoped she would pull in millions of viewers for weeks and weeks.
“Her skating partner Matt Evers flew to America for weeks of training.
"We had to book first class flights for her and source plush accommodation for months too in case she got to the final stages.
“All in all we’ve spent about £150,000 on Pammy and she has lasted one week. It’s a disaster.”
To add insult to injury, the series kicked off with 7.7 million viewers, almost a million down on 2012 and the lowest ever opening audience in the show’s eight-year history.
And although they clearly didn’t vote for her, some male fans insisted they would now turn off because Pam, 45, is out.
Viewer Jamie Garner tweeted: “Can’t believe Pamela Anderson left. She was the only reason to watch.”
Another fan, Frankie Sloan, said: “Never has there been a travesty as big as Pamela Anderson getting voted off in first week. I for one will not watch again.”
Speaking on This Morning yesterday, Pamela insisted she was “devastated” to be leaving the contest so soon
Her early departure comes after the bikini babe was also voted out of Dancing with the Stars in the US after just one dance last year.
Pamela said: “I really felt we would do really well and I have always wanted to learn how to skate, so it is devastating.”
She revealed that luckily she had asked the wardrobe department to give her petal-style nipple covers beneath the dress because she feared an impending malfunction.
She added: “I stumbled, my boobs fell out... it’s common in my life.”
Pamela said she felt really bad for her partner Matt, adding: “We had done that routine flawlessly I don’t know how many times before.”
Show host Philip Schofield made light of the embarrassing moment by joking: “If it had happened earlier maybe you wouldn’t have been in the skate-off!”
Pamela said she had enjoyed her short time with the other celebs, including Corrie star Samia Ghadie, 30.
She insisted she would continue skating but would not do any more reality shows, despite reportedly needing cash to pay tax debts. She said: “I know I had the potential and the flexibility and the passion to do great things if I was around a little longer. I will do it somewhere else – Vegas, why not?”
The star admitted she had been given every opportunity to shine in the contest. She said: “They gave me the best pro and they wanted me to do really well.
“But I don’t think I should be in this kind of environment anyway. I have learned how to dance and skate, but I would rather get on stage and put some of it to use in the theatre.”
A spokesman for Dancing On Ice said they did not discuss individual fees for celebrities, but confirmed all contestants receive their full payment regardless of when they leave the competition.
