Gunman Afghanistan: Woman officer shot by gunman dies in Middle East hospital |
The gunman Afghanistan story begins after a senior female police officer and respected community woman, Lieutenant Negar, was gunned down not far from local police headquarters in the capital of the provience, Lashkar Gah. The gunman (or potentially gunmen, as an exact number involved in the attack is not known at this time) responsible for her death is currently being sought out by local authorities.
Lieutenant Negar marks the third female police officer of senior status to have been killed in the line of duty in the Middle East during the last few months alone, while another Helmand policewoman, Islam Bibi, was fatally shot in July while heading to work.
The threat of dangerous drug traders and Taliban supporters stand as a double crime threat to Helmand police. There has been no claiming of the death from any terrorist or rebel group in the killing, nor has any Afghanistan gunman come forward at this time, the report continues. A spokesman said that Lt. Negar’s killers have been simply labeled as “enemies of Afghanistan.”
At this time, confirms BBC, Afghan troops continue to pick up the load as American and British troops withdraw their military forces. Less than one percent of all Afghanistan officers are women, with over 1,500 female officers in service and another 200 in training.
Lt. Negar was said to be walking on her way to the Helmand police station when an unidentified gunman driving a motorbike shot and killed her via a gun wound to the neck. She passed away in a nearby hospital this Sunday night.
