'Walking Dead' spinoff coming to AMC, The cable channel announced that it is working on a companion series slated to air alongside "The Walking Dead" from 2015.

To develop this new spinoff, AMC has enlisted the help of Robert Kirkman, author of the comic book series that inspired the original show, in addition to Gale Ann Hurd and David Alpert, two of the brains behind the current "Walking Dead" series.

In the planning stage at the moment, the new series is expected to air on AMC in 2015. The zombies fans of "The Walking Dead" have come to know and love will invade the lives of new characters in an entirely new plot, the channel informs.

First aired in 2010, "The Walking Dead" is a direct adaptation of Kirkman's comic books. Andrew Lincoln plays Rick Grimes, a former sheriff who becomes the leader of a small band of survivors in a world ravaged by a zombie epidemic. The series' most recent season, its third, attracted an average of 10.75 million American viewers between October 2012 and March 2013. Season four will premiere on AMC this October 13.

"The Walking Dead" isn't the only hit show whose success AMC hopes to cash in on with a spinoff. The channel has greenlighted a project under the working title "Better Call Saul," focusing on one of the more colorful characters from "Breaking Bad." The new series will give fans something to look forward to after the final season of the hit show comes to a close this September 29, bowing out after five seasons.
