he Ugliest Animal On Earth: Blobfish An Early Favorite, There are a lot of beautiful animals on earth. Of course, there are also some ugly ones. The National Science + Engineering Competition is currently holding a contest to determine, once and for all, the ugliest animal on earth. Now, there are a lot of options. The blobfish, for instance, is expected to take plenty of early votes.
I mean, you don’t even really need to see the animal to know that it’s ugly. It has “blob” right there in its name. But the blobfish isn’t going to run away with the contest.
Nope, there is some pretty stiff competition this year. British bats, the Dromedary jumping slug, and the Flightless dung beetle all have a chance of taking the ugliest animal on earth crown. The winners will be chosen on September 11.
The NSECUK started the ugliest animal contest in a partnership with the Ugly Animal Preservation Society. The UAPS takes a comedic approach to raise awareness for the less cuddly animals out there.
Everyone wants to protect pandas and butterflies but where’s the conservation effort for the dung beetle? The UAPS writes: “The Ugly Animal Preservation Society is dedicated to raising the profile of some of Mother Nature’s more aesthetically challenged children. The panda gets too much attention.”
