New Jersey Man Killed Girlfriend With Car, Authorities Say

New Jersey Man Killed Girlfriend With Car, Authorities Say - A man angry that his girlfriend was trying to break up with him struck her with his car and repeatedly drove over her body, prosecutors said Tuesday in charging him with The man, Charles Ann, 26, had been dating Aena Hong, 25, for about a year, and the pair had a tumultuous relationship, said John Molinelli, the Bergen County prosecutor.

Witnesses told the police they saw a woman on foot arguing with the driver of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata at about 5 p.m. on Monday in this northern New Jersey borough next to the George Washington Bridge, directly across the Hudson River from Manhattan.

The driver of the car headed away from the woman, turned around, rapidly accelerated and hit her as she was crossing an intersection, witnesses said. The driver then drove back and forth over the woman’s body three times, investigators said.

Ms. Hong, who lived in Fort Lee, was pronounced dead at a hospital. The police found the Hyundai Sonata, registered to Mr. Ann, in Fort Lee a few hours later.

Mr. Ann, who is unemployed, was arrested at 4 a.m. on Tuesday at a friend’s apartment in Flushing, Queens.

Mr. Ann, a native of South Korea, came to the United States in 2009 and is a naturalized United States citizen who lives in Fort Lee, the authorities said. He was carrying a large amount of cash and his passport when he was arrested, leading investigators to believe that he might have been preparing to flee the country, Mr. Molinelli said.

Mr. Ann was being held in $3 million bail and was awaiting extradition to New Jersey. It was unclear if he had a lawyer.
