Bronx bodega shooting: New video shows 8-year-old boy struck in shoulder by stray bullet - The 8-year-old boy shot in the shoulder by a gunman on a bike was looking at a bag of chips inside a Bronx bodega just before he was hit, surveillance footage shows.

The boy was standing with his mother inside Papa Yala’s Deli on Randall Ave. near Lawrence Ave. in Soundview when the shot rang out about 8 p.m. Tuesday.

“The mom was at the counter and the boy was looking at the chip rack when I heard a gunshot,” said Mahmood Abdulrub, the store’s manager.

“It was real loud. I heard screaming. The mom cried for her son. I see this cute little boy walking over slowly holding his left shoulder.”

Abdulrub said the wounded boy didn’t utter a word.

“He looked stunned,” he said. “There was blood everywhere.”

The panicked Abdulrub sat the child on a milk crate and tried to stop the bleeding.

“He was so polite,” he said. “He looked up at me with his big googly eyes and said, ‘Thank you, sir.’”

The child was also concerned about making a mess.

“He kept telling me he had to spit up blood,” Abdulrub said. “He was worried about spitting blood on my floor. I kept telling him not to worry about it.”

The gunman, who rolled up on a bicycle and fired the shot at a group of people standing outside, was still on the lam Wednesday.

The little boy, whose name was not released by police, was taken to Jacobi Medical Center. He was expected to survive.

“It was crazy,” Abdulrub said. “This little boy had just been shot and he still remembered his manners.”
