A Saturday night search for Bigfoot through the woods in Rogers County, Okla., ended with one man in the hospital and three of his friends behind bars.
Rogers County Sherriff’s deputies received a call about a man with a gunshot wound at a local Quiktrip station. When police responded to the call, they found Joseph Smalley with a wound in his back that required surgery.
The group at the station said they had been “hunting for Sasquatch or Bigfoot,” according to Sheriff Scott Walton.
“Instead of the normal channels someone would take ‘911, we need an ambulance’ or transport someone to an emergency room, they opted to use Quiktrip,” Walton said.
Apparently something in the woods spooked the group, leading Smalley’s friend, Omar Pineda, to shoot him in the back.
“First rendition of the story, we received information that someone had shot at them and that later turned into a more truthful explanation,” Walton said. “However, fortunately we believe this individual’s wounds will not be life threatening.”
Pineda was arrested for reckless conduct with a firearm and obstructing an officer. Pineda’s father-in-law, Perry James, threw the gun in a pond because he “was a felon with a firearm.” James was arrested early Sunday morning. After telling officers a few different version of what happened, Pineda’s wife, Lacey, was arrested for obstructing an officer.
