Munich 550 Pound WWII Bomb

Experts detonate 550-pound World War II bomb in Munich, Explosives experts in Germany have detonated the remains of a 550-pound World War II bomb found in central Munich, the Associated Press reports.

The BBC reports that the explosive was discovered Monday night by workers demolishing the site of an old bar.

About 3,000 residents were forced to leave their homes until the bomb was detonated around 10 p.m. Debris caused fires in several nearby buildings.

Experts decided that it would not be possible to defuse the bomb because it did not have a mechanical fuse.
