The unfiltered "boss" of reality TV's latest polarizing family, 33-year-old June has faced scrutiny of her past since the debut of TLC's Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.
In 2008, June was arrested for contempt of court, a charge she says originated from a child support issue with her mom. (June's 18-year-old daughter, Anna, was largely raised by June's mother.) She also faced an unrelated theft charge that "had nothing to do with family," says June. Both charges were subsequently dismissed.
Back in March, June's then 6-year-old daughter Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson (now 7) was shown guzzling a mix of Mountain Dew and Red Bull that the family dubbed "go-go juice" in a controversial episode of Toddlers and Tiaras.
A video of Alana dancing on a bar also surfaced online – and drew the attention of child protection authorities in Georgia, who investigated the family. No charges were ever filed.
"It was the worst four days of my whole entire life," June says of the investigation. She defends the bar appearance as "a meet-and-greet at a concert." But, she adds, "After I left, I realized, 'I'm not gonna put Alana in that situation again because it was crazy.' "
As for the "go-go juice," "It was a one time only thing. We don't do it."
Does she regret going on TV and opening up her life to close inspection?
"No," says June. "I don't have anything to hide."
