Making a surprise appearance at New York Fashion Week last Sunday, Google's Sergey Brin was on hand at Diane von Furstenberg's fashion show to watch his company's highly anticipated Google Glass device in action. The glasses, which will hit the consumer market in 2014, were worn by Furstenberg's models, staff and the fashion icon herself, to record a short film titled, DVF [through Glass].
The Glass captured behind-the-scenes footage of models getting ready to walk the runway, the controlled backstage chaos that accompanies any New York Fashion Week show, and intimate moments with Furstenberg, including a moment when she tapes a gold coin carried by her father in World War II to her shoe. It's a tradition she continues for good luck.The short film reveals impressive high definition video and sound quality of the augmented reality-enhanced glasses. The Glass is slated to feature a number of smartphone functions, including a video and still camera, the ability to receive messages, a calendar, and GPS features, among others.
