Mother sues her son to get out him out of her posh $1 million East Side apartment near Sutton Place
Mother sues her son to get out him out of her posh $1 million East Side apartment near Sutton Place - A 92-year-old woman has slapped her son with a lawsuit, claiming he’s barred her from her $1 million East Side apartment and demanding his eviction.
Katherine Gregori charges that her son Michael had all the locks changed on her E. 56th St. co-op while she was convalescing in a nursing home, forcing her to go live with another son in Maryland.
That son, Peter, backs her up. “It’s her place. She owns it 100%,” he said Wednesday.
Michael Gregori, 58, was married to prima ballerina Eva Evdokimova, the famed dance partner of Rudolf Nureyev. Evdokimova died of complications from cancer in April 2009.
In her Manhattan Supreme Court suit, Katherine Gregori said she allowed her son and Evdokimova to live with her when the dancer began undergoing cancer treatment in 2006.
After his wife died, Michael Gregori continued to live in her two-bedroom apartment off Sutton Place, which his mother had bought in the 1960s.
When Katherine Gregori had to be placed temporarily in a nursing home last June, she charges, he schemed to bar her from her apartment.
She charges he had her locks changed, sent her to live with son Peter and even tried to get an order of protection against her.
Meanwhile, Katherine Gregori has continued to pay taxes and co-op maintenance charges on her pad.
“This is a very private woman, who has asked me to respect her privacy,” said Katherine Gregori’s attorney, Allan Pullin, who declined to comment on the lawsuit.
Michael Gregori could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
Peter Gregori said their mother had hoped the case would not draw attention to her “very personal” battle with Michael.
He said his mother has continued to have health problems in the past year.
“At this point, she wants to sell it because she needs the money for her care,” said Peter Gregori.
