Mitt Romney Young

Nine photos of a young Mitt Romney, As Mitt Romney prepares to accept the Republican nomination for president, here are nine photos of the candidate in his youth. Photos show GOP presidential candidate growing up as son of Michigan's governor.

Following Mitt Romney’s commanding victory in the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday night, it’s looking more and more like the son of former Michigan governor George Romney is a lock to be the Republican presidential nominee.

With that in mind, we unearthed some gems from the Grand Rapids Press print photo files that show little Mitt kickin’ it with his dad at the family home back in the 1950s.

A little bio here: Willard Mitt Romney was born March 12, 1947, the youngest son of George and Lenore Romney, and was raised in Bloomfield Hills before serving as a Mormon missionary in France as a young man.

His father was the 43rd governor of Michigan from 1963 to 1969, and the United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 1969 to 1973.

The photos in this gallery appear to have been given to the Press by the Romney family during the years when Lenore Romney was building up to an unsuccessful run for the U.S. Senate in 1970.

The Republican primary in Michigan takes place next month, Feb. 28.
