While Catherine is allegedly trying to save her marriage, Michael Douglas feels that life is too short for all the misery they’ve endured over the last few years, a new report claims. Plus, Michael’s eldest son, Cameron, has reportedly driven a wedge between the couple.
Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are taking some time apart “to evaluate and work on their marriage,” their rep confirmed, but according to a new report, Catherine, 43, is putting in most of the effort to save the relationship.

“The marriage is effectively over. Catherine is fighting to save the marriage but he’s had it. Michael has been through so much in the past few years he feels that life is too short for all this misery,” a source told Daily Mail. “Reconciliation is not on his radar anymore.
It’s no secret that Michael and Catherine have endured many hardships over the past three years of their relationship – his battle with throat cancer in 2010 and her ongoing struggles with bipolar II disorder. Michael’s eldest son, Cameron, was also sentenced to prison in April 2010 for dealing meth and cocaine out of a NYC hotel room. And it’s Michael’s son, 34, who reportedly drove a wedge between the couple.

“A big divide between Michael and Catherine has become Cameron,” a source close to the couple told Radar Online.
Cameron is not expected to be released from jail until 2018.
After failing a drug test in January 2013, “Cameron is in solitary confinement and hasn’t seen his father in an eternity, as he can’t have visitors. Michael is beside himself. It consumes him,” the source says.
However, the source says, Catherine doesn’t feel the same way. “Cameron and Catherine never seemed to have a close relationship and I think Michael always felt she just didn’t care for the situation. He probably felt there was little sympathy from her, toward him and Cameron.”
Michael, 68, and Catherine have their own kids, Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10, together. Since their separation, Michael has been vacationing off the coast of Sardinia while Catherine’s at home with the children in New York.
