Robert Griffin III was hurt in today's game against the Ravens that went into OT, according to a Dec. 9 report from Sports Illustrated. Ultimately, it was rookie Kirk Cousins who lead the Redskins to the win over the Ravens after RG3 suffered a knee injury.
Baltimore DT Haloti Ngata hit Robert Griffin III late in the fourth quarter when the Redskins were down by eight. RG3 had scrambled, and he went down hurt after that hit. His knee whipped violently back during the hit, and it looked pretty horrible on TV and on the replays.
In a few plays, he was back on the field, but it proved to be too much, and he had to exit the game leaving it to another rookie quarterback to take the reigns.
The Redskins report that an MRI on the rookie quarterback's knee did not show any damage to his ligaments. The fact that the ligaments are not torn is probably good news in this Robert Griffin III injury. Washington said RG3 suffered a right knee sprain, which will hopefully heal quickly.
It is wonderful, too, that Cousins came through by throwing a touchdown pass, rushing in a two point conversion, and then handing off in OT. Ultimately, the Washington Redskins got the W with a score of 31-28, and hopefully it will not end up costing them RGIII. Obviously losing the rookie quarterback would be a huge cost for this win.
