Apocalypse survival pods

Apocalypse survival pods, As doomsday extremists stocked up on canned foods and candles, Chinese farmer Liu Qiyuan was building massive steel survival pods wrapped in fiberglass.

He’s convinced the airtight shells — which can fit up to 14 people — can survive even the most earth-shaking natural disasters.

Qiyuan unveiled seven of the pods just days before Dec. 21, when the Mayan apocalypse is supposedly set to obliterate Earth.

He built them outside his home in the Qiantum village, part of the Hebei province and south of Beijing, and hopes they’ll one day be adopted by the government to use in case of earthquakes or tsunamis.

The collection of pods, which Qiyuan calls “Noah’s Ark,” is equipped with seatbelts and oxygen tanks and can float on water. Some can propel.

Qiyuan was inspired by the apocalypse-themed science fiction film, “2012,” and the deadly tsunami that struck Indonesia in 2004.

Next Friday marks the last day of the existing Mayan calendar, triggering fear of an impending doomsday.
