Election Day Cake, Several Hartford-area restaurants are offering specials to voters this election day. Max Restaurant Group offers half-priced bottles of wine at all of its Connecticut locations. You can enjoy a special $20.12 "patriotic" menu at Grants and Restaurant Bricco in West Hartford and Bricco Trattoria in Glastonbury. Reservations are suggested.
The following two require an "I Voted" sticker, which might present a problem as polling places are not stocked (could be one of the goods that didn't make it through the storm-delayed shipments), but see if they will make exceptions.
Tapas in Bloomfield will give you a draft beer or glass of house wine for just $3 if you show your "I Voted" sticker. And the Belvedere Cafe and Restaurant, at 82 Broad Street in New Britain, offers a 10 percent discount on lunch or dinner checks if you present an "I Voted" sticker.
If you are staying home glued to the returns tonight, why not serve some Election Cake? Hartford was once known for this confection, a moist yeast-based treat studded with dried fruit and soaked with brandy.
The cake could be made ahead and brought to town to share on Election Day, or you can make it this evening to sample through the evening. Leftover cake, if any, is good for breakfast with cream cheese or toasted with butter.
