Dust Storm Oklahoma

Dust Storm Oklahoma, We had a severe dust storm in Oklahoma yesterday Sunday, January 22, 2012.  I live in Davis Oklahoma and the wind blew hard all day.  The weather channels website recorded a gust yesterday morning around 6:30 AM at 19 mph.
That pretty strong wind gusts for 6:30 AM.  We had High Wind Warnings and a Fire Weather Warning yesterday afternoon in conjunction with the dust storm.

The wind really got gusty Sunday afternoon with gusts mainly between 40 mph to 50 mph.  That’s an estimate from where I was on Sunday afternoon and by no means is official.  According to the Oklahoma Mesonet, Sulphur had a wind gust of 49 mph at 3:00 PM and Pauls Valley had a wind gust of 45 mph at 3:25 PM.

At around 2:00 PM yesterday afternoon you could see the dust starting to come into the atmosphere in southern Oklahoma from the west.  Leaves and debris were blowing all over the place, swirling around.  Debris is another word for trash.  At first, it just looked like a light haze coming in from the west.  Then, the dust really started making its presence known with each 40 mph wind gust.  It seemed as if it became more and more noticeable with each passing minute.

At around 2:40 PM, the dust had highly influenced the sun with a dark orange tint.  The suns rays were noticeably weaker.  The dusts influence on the sun gave everything a dark orange look like you were on Mars or some alien planet.  Everything had an orange tint, the wind was almost constant at 40 to 50 mph, and it was very warm.  The high for January 22, 2012 was 71 degrees in Pauls Valley, Ok.  That’s very warm for January with gusty winds.
