Kellie Pickler Shaves Her Head to Support Breast Cancer-Stricken Friend, When Kellie Pickler encouraged fans to tune in to this morning’s episode of Good Morning America, we weren’t sure what she had up her sleeve.
The American Idol alum shocked viewers by shaving her head alongside her best friend Summer Miller, who’s being treated for breast cancer. The singer pulled the dramatic stunt as a show of support for her pal and as a way to encourage early detection for others.
Kellie Pickler is the definition of a real friend.
The country cutie has buzzed off her long blond locks in support of her best friend, Summer Holt Miller, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in June and starting chemotherapy treatments this week.
Pickler, 26, debuted her new look in a video clip on “Good Morning America” Wednesday in which Miller, 36, also went under the razor to rid her tresses.
“Cancer does not discriminate,” the “American Idol” alum said in a release.
“If this compels even one person to change their mentality toward waiting until the age of 40 for their mammogram, then it will be worth it,” added Miller, who recently underwent a double mastectomy.
With a history of breast cancer in her family, Miller had always been cautious about self-examinations. The mother of two asked her doctor for a mammogram, which is when the tumor was detected in its early stage. She was declared cancer-free in August, and will undergo chemotherapy treatments on Thursday to help ensure it doesn’t return.
Pickler took to Twitter on Tuesday and called the experience “one of the most incredible days of my life.”
