Afghans prepare to bury slain former president

KABUL, Afghanistan - Mourners are preparing for the burial of former Afghan President Burhanuddin Rabbani, who was killed by a suicide bomber claiming to carry a message of peace from the Taliban.
Afghan television on Friday showed uniformed servicemen with caps and white gloves lifting Rabbani's casket, draped in a red, black and green national flag. Security was heavy in Kabul, with police and troops manning checkpoints around the capital.
The ex-president headed the Afghan peace council, which was seeking to reconcile the nation's warring factions. He was killed Tuesday evening in Kabul by an assassin who visited his home under the guise of delivering a message from the insurgency.
